Photos Of Street Life From The 50`s-60`s [Pic]

Submitted by: Jake_Justus 1 year ago

Photographer Vivian Maier went widely unrecognized during her lifetime for the incredible photos she took during the 1950"s. She wandered the streets of New York collecting everyday moments on film and capturing the very essence of urban life in her time period. But it wasn"t until 2011, when a box of her negatives were found in a thrift auction house, that the beauty of her work was truly appreciated. Now, Vivian"s photos are critically acclaimed, and when you see them and are immediately transported to another era, you"ll know exactly why.

Picture three reminds me of the bank robber from Orange is the new Black.

The broad in 3 is hot.

Most of them look like homeless people.

Start spreadin` the news, I`m leavin` today
I want to be a part of it
New York, New York
These vagabond shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it
New York, New York

I want to wake up, in a city that never sleeps
And find I`m king of the hill
Top of the heap

These little town blues, are melting away
I`ll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there, I`ll make it anywhere
It`s up to you, New York..New York

New York...New York
I want to wake up, in a city that never sleeps
And find I`m A number one, top of the list
King of the hill, A number one....

These little town blues, are melting away
I`ll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there, I`ll make it anywhere
It`s up to you, New York..New York New York!!!

The `good ol days` don`t seems a whole lot different from `these days`. The Television box would just be thinner and taller.

@TacoTuesday, "That guy in the second photo...I really don`t think he spent much or worked hard on that [hair] style. What`s his secret?!"

Chicken grease. Lots and lots of chicken grease.

That guy in the second photo... I spend tons of money on Hollywood-grade waxes and pomades to get that exact same spiky, wild look. I know better than to judge a book by its cover, but I really don`t think he spent much or worked hard on that style. What`s his secret?!

A little correction. Not all of these photos were taken in New York City. Some were taken in Chicago, San Francisco and Canada.

More great photos here.
