Israeli Settlers Walk Into A Palestinian House…

This footage, filmed and published in 2009, gives you an intimate yet disturbing close-up of colonial expansion and occupation. Watch as over a dozen Jewish settlers make their way into a Palestinian home in Jerusalems Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and lay claim to a section of the property. The home belonged to the Al-Kurd family. Rifqa Al-Kurd, 90, attempted to keep the settlers from entering the home but the settlers quickly moved around her, bringing their own belongings into the house and removing the familys belongings from the premises. According to the videos description, a previous court order administered by an Israeli judge transferred ownership rights over part of the house to a family of Jewish settlers. It is unclear if any appeals were made on behalf of the Al-Kurd family, but considering Israels longstanding history of ignoring land ownership deeds held by Palestinians, it is unlikely that the situation would have changed.
Decide it”s theirs. But hey, why not?

First off, I don`t agree with anyone putting people out of their homes. This is wrong, period.
I really don`t understand the rabid anti-Semitism I`ve seen on IAB. Usually it`s European in origin, but it seems more Americans hating Jews lately, for some reason.
Oddly enough this hate usually comes from those who call themselves liberal.
I call them phony liberals. Pure political liberalism, if embraced with its original honorable intent, is a point of view I can respect, whether I agree with parts of it or not.
But my god, some of you are absolute pigs. Reignblazer, I include you in this, you are a pig.

@BoredFrank: I`m building a house on YOUR front lawn! Lets see how you like that, buttercup.

5+ years ago? This is "the best you got"? @paperduck?

NO WORD on the legality of that home. NO word on any negotiations to peacefully resolve the issue?

Just naked anti-Semitism, plain as day.

@madduck: Don`t you English have big problems with "squatters"? You never, ever kick them out?

I know for a fact that the UN Allows "disputed settlements" to grow and expand, (within guidelines, of course) and that INCLUDES Israeli Jews.
NO ONE (in the MSM or on the left) has complained about the Palestinians expanding THEIR settlements! Not one of you on IAB...

I started off pro-Israel because of the whole "US ally" thing, plus I`m dating a totally out of my league Jew, but I`m finding it difficult to support either faction at this point. It`s like every day there is some new development that makes each side appear worse and worse. Best to just look away until the dust settles.

5Cats the point here is not the religion or if someone wear a burqa or have a Menorah in the living room...screw that for a second please. I have learned from the words of the elders and from some history book i`ve read, and i can`t see the difference between this abuse and the abuses that nazis have done during their "reign".

You`re saying you disagree with people being forced out of their homes. Great. We agree. But oh lordy, I must`ve said the word Jewish (they are jews in the video btw), so clearly I must be some kind of neo-nazi.

@5cats so you`re saying that Palestinians need to just shut up and give away their lands and homes? If Israel wants to expand, the only appropriate response is "yes please, may I have another". ??!

It`s one thing to live in the Lala land of your mind and think Palestinians are mindless animals, but it`s obvious to anyone with a conscience that things like this are what leaves pissed off individuals. What would you do if that was your home? If that was your grandmother?

This certainly can`t be the first thing that sheds light on the plight of Palestine...just look at how the map has changed over the years! No rational person thinks Israel is blameless...but they also don`t think Palestine is blameless either. Yes, the area was occupied when the UN gave the Jews their little "consolation prize" for the Holocaust, but then wasn`t it originally occupied by Jews a couple thousand years ago? If everyone keeps arguing about who started what, nothing will be resolved.

My point was that posts like these tend to do more to inflame, than inform...and that certainly doesn`t help shape a better future.

but things live on- look at the troubles in Ireland for Gods sake. once you start this kind of thing it is VERY hard to put an end to end. How would any of the Americans on here feel about going `home` where ever that is.. or was, possibly, on one side or twenty sides? I agree- you cannot unring a bell... but while you let people keep behaving like this nothing will change.

I know you`ve all been told about how palestinans were happily living throughout Israel, and then the jews came and drove them out. But, if you do some reserch and some thinking, you`ll find out that the palestinian community in Israel was very small, so claiming the entire land is theirs is just like saying that all of Europe is mine just because I live in it. MOST of the countries back then decided it is VALID and RIGHT to declare the state of Israel. Do you think they are all just stupid? That they had no idea what was going on back than? If there was a big, lively community in Israel they would never agree to that. But they did. Just think about it logicaly instead of beleiving every written word.

And one more thing, for peace you need both parties to want peace. If one of the sides only wants the utter and total annihilation of the other side - how can there be peace?

It`s funny, because it says "Israeli lawmaker`s call for genocide" on the website titled "electronic intifada" (which basically means electronic terrorism), but in truth it`s just one eccentric "Israeli Knesset member" (one out of 120, from which some are muslim arabs) who actually refers to an article, which was written 12 years ago, about how the situation between Israel and the palestinians should (allegedly) be considerd WAR, and not just terror acts and retaliations. An opinion/discussion about calling it war is by no means calling for genocide, which is far, far from it. I don`t expect you to read hebrew, so you can`t see for yourself it`s the truth, but if you read something on a page titled along the lines of "electronic terrorism", don`t just take it as granted. Expect it to be "a bit" inacurate.

@pitbull saying the people there were too few to matter or however you imagine it, might seem equitable to someone 3000 miles away, but it is nonsense to them. To the one losing property it requires a fight - every American will agree with me on this if this was their land or home, Republicans would be the first to take up arms. So we can`t just say "eh, they don`t matter" if the desire is to be neighbors. Estimates are 800k refugees were created. Beside that, the biggest problem is the steady expansion and occupation SINCE. This video shows just one (relatively non-violent) instance of what those little changes on the map consist of.

Reffering to most of the countires in the world as "someone 3000 miles away" isn`t very accurate, is it? You don`t seem to think that the desicion was based on the opinion of a handful of randomly selected people, right? So yea, if the goverments of most countries saw that as a valid solution (and you can`t say the majority was pro-jew or anything like that) - I think they took everything into consideration.

Now about how every american will agree with you, ask the native americans. Will it be okay if your kids will be kidnapped tomorrow or your house bombarded because many years ago an american-indian lived within 100KM of your house?
So before saying stuff like "Israeli occupation", learn your own history.

I don`t think it`s by any means "right" to make anyone leave the area they call home, but I understand that nothing is perfect in this world - and compromises have to be made. Problems start when one side doesn`t want to compromis

Look- no one at the time thought it was a bad idea. No one thought partition was a bad idea either (actually they did- but no one listened). Problem is that the people whose farms, houses and land were taken got really really pissed off- just as you would. They were not worried about the global situation- just the fact that some foreign arsehole just stole the family farm. it may have seemed a wise idea at the time- and we can`t undo it, but surely now we know it is just moronic to pretend it is all still okay... you cannot expect to treat individuals like that and not expect them to fight back.

Well in 2005 thousands of Israeli jewish families were torn apart from their lands, houses and farms in favour of giving the lands to palestinians authority, and those individuales were (and are) expected to not fight back - and you know what - they didn`t. Because with all the sorrow and tears, they honor the descision of their government (and even those amoung them who don`t approve, are not violently fighting back). So yea, after so long, I`d expect them to talk about it and reach compromises which can be beneficial for both sides, and not just wage war and acts of terror untill all Israel will evaporate.

By now it is a mess- as I said, you cannot just treat people like cattle- neither can you undo the problem. However, rather than just treat the Palestinians as second class terrorists why not recognise they had a genuine grievance and work out how two communities can live together in peace. It will take years- and will be really hard, but while the Israeli state insists the Palestinians have no rights and refuses to compromise then the war will continue. These things last generations and are horrible, both sides are wrong in many things, both sides have good points as well. Sadly too, by now the welfare of ordinary people will take second place to the desire for power and profit by their leaders.

Many years ago, European settlers sailed around the world colonising previously unknown lands. The opinion of the indigenous peoples were ignored, and the land was `claimed` by the colonisers as their own. The locals were subdued or wiped out. Not a lot changes when it comes to human behaviour, only the level of violence.

    Good morning everyone:)

I see you all completely ignored my suggestion to try arguing for your opponent...too bad, it`s a bit of a debate tactic used to try to find resolution between two sides...

There certainly won`t be peace in Israel and Palestine, when there can`t even be peace here on this forum.

Yes, there were some people in Palestine before. How many is irrelevant. There was only one woman in this house and it doesn`t make it less wrong. But then, it can certainly be argued that the Jews were living there a couple thousand years ago....

Both have valid claims to the land. Both have a right to exist. As long as each side believes the other doesn`t, there can be no progress...

@jaysingrimm: MANY TIMES Jews have turned land over to Palestinians. It`s a FACT.
You know what happened one particular time?
The Palis B*TCHED that they Jews left their Temples standing! Forcing the Muslims to DESTRY them all! They wanted financial compensation!!

@5cats it`s funny you should mention that, buying property or a house is one thing - then declaring that property part of another sovereign country is quite another. Try doing it in the US, see how that "but but I paid a lot of money" works for you. I see you`re trying to drag this discussion into your hate-filled self-righteous void you call a soul, just about everyone thinks what happened to this woman was wrong, but no,

You know paperduck, everyone feels sad for this woman because she looks old, weak and hurt IN A VIDEO. People also feel sad for movie characters IN A VIDEO.
The fact that`s it`s in a video, doesn`t mean the story behind it is the whole truth. I know it`s easy to belive, as the emotions shown seem to match the description, but apart from that no proof. So keep beliving videos on the internet, and ignore logical claims and history facts from people who actually did some reserch.

It`s great to do what you do though, because you get to be the compassionate person who seeks justice and helps the weak. Well mr. hero. I do admire your devoted, unconditional love for hollywood. It`s just not the case you want it to be.

Palestinians and Jews should stop having soo many gawddamn children. They`re using the oldest trick in the book, out-breed your competition. Too many people in too small of a piece of land, nothing good every comes out of that tactic.

The Jews lost their land after the Romans / Byzantines kicked them out of their lands and repopulated the lands with their own peoples. The Jewish population that stayed there did so under the worst legel atrocities commited against a people, Im surprised any stayed if at all during their Dark Ages Christian dominance of those lands. I do know that the Jews did escape and go towards Babylon in exile and did ok under later Muslim rule in those lands. The Brits when they controlled Palestine after the conquest of the Otttomons in WWI taught the muslims the anti-jewish racism from Europe (which stem from older Byzantine laws). Its the worlds created mess and the world doesnt like fixing things it breaks.

If I take 100 dollars from you and give you back 5, do you think that`s amicable?

"But Israel CANNOT EVER move it`s borders? How stupid is THAT?"

Are you actually suggesting Israel should just be allowed to slowly occupy more and more of Palestine?

Can Canada, or the US or any other country just move their borders as they individually please?

@jaysingrimm: The UNITED NATIONS drew the borders. You have "issues" then speak to them! Unless you believe the UN has NO right to decide such things? Ok then...

JORADN is the home of Palestinians: They`re the majority there! They HAVE a homeland already!

First step: YOU go to Russia and make them give back the 25 miles of POLAND they took after WW2.
Second: Get them to give the Crimea back to Ukraine...

THEN get back to me on "unmovable" borders...
    OK?
It`s an idiotic argument to say a nation "cannot move it`s borders" when DOZENS have, and recently too!

Did the United Nations draw the CURRENT borders...do you support a return to something similar to what they laid out the first time around?

I didn`t argue that borders never change. Border changes do occur, and tend to be a result of either conquest or negotiation. Personally, I support the latter method, as victims of conquest aren`t really give an option, and tend to be treated poorly. But then, it was the former method that I was alluding to before...I don`t support Israel or Russia`s "expansion plans"...

I think most of us have somewhere else we could call home...I`m still not giving up my home here!

@5cats has taken this to a level of meaninglessness I`ve encountered few other times. Can`t say I`ve heard "borders move" argument before. I guess I`ll have to remember that one as Israel`s borders get smaller? You`ll agree with that change as well. Lol.

@5cats and pitibul Decide whether UN decisions should be respected or not. Israel is in violation of 50 something resolutions, probably has gone up since.

Lastly, how do you think displacement occurred, you buffoon? You think ALL the Palestinians sold their property or just left? Or did they No, THIS is what happened or it was at the end of a bullet.

Notice how BIG Palestine is? What`s wrong with going back to THIS border?

Or this? Notice how the `disputed zones` are NOT held by Israel?

The rest of the Arabic world lost their say in the issue by invading THREE times! `48, `67 and `73.

    Israel GAVE BACK the Sinai!
    GAVE Gaza to the PLO!
Tore down the homes of Jews and pushed THEM out, to be in line with UN dictates, something NO Plalestinian Government will EVER do!

But hey! Lets just ignore all that and argue about "who killed whom first"...

    Ukraine... it was THIS YEAR!

    Watch, Learn!

you`ve never heard it before because you -literally- have no idea what you`re talking about. That`s plain to see.

The Arabic nations told Muslims inside Israel to "clear out" so they wouldn`t get in the way. Only Jews would be left so no worries about THSOE civilian casualties! They could come home after the Glorious Victory and take the Jews houses!

But... things didn`t quite go as planned...

Jordan and other nations ALSO expelled 400,000 or more Jews, you have no sympathy for them?

The difference? Muslims put refugees INTO CAMPS (not the Jews! Not the UN!) while Israel welcomed it`s refugees.

I was enquiring about something similar to the second map, as the first map is from a time before the UN was established (I thought I was specific), Israel was formed, and Palestine was still under British administration. Are you suggesting a return to that instead?

The first map certainly looks nicer for what would be Israel (or Palestine if thats your fancy), and I`m not sure modern day Jordan appears like that either. Regardless, Jordan and Palestine are no more the same than Canada and the US. Less so perhaps, as I`m not sure Jordan would likely welcome the Hamas...

You keep coming up again and again with that 100$ for 25$ example...
Firstly, Israel didn`t "steal" land that wasn`t theirs. Before the state of Israel was established there were arab palestinians AND jews on the land. The entire land didn`t belonge to the palestinians in the first place.
Secondly, it`s not really stealing if the MAJORITY OF THE WORLD decides it`s the rightful thing to do. Kinda like when your boss tells you you`re gonna share your office with someone, you don`t call jihad and suicide bomb the other emplyoee, you talk to your boss.

Thirdly, 100$ and 25$? have you ever looked at a map? Israel is a tiny spot. It`s more like arguing over cents rather than bucks. And also, amoung all the territories Israel HAD and gave up on for peace there`s Sinai, which is roughly 3-4 times the size of ISRAEL. So it`s more like you trying to bully a poor guy for his 1$ lunch money, he happens to know karate, so he takes your wallet with 4$ and then, JUST TO KEEP THE PEACE with you, the guy who attacked him, gives you back the 4$ and goes his way with the 1$ (not including all the other, smaller pieces of land afterwards).

So please get your examples straight. And watch the news, Israel is currently bombarded by missiles day and night. You don`t hear about it because of the Iron Dome technology (developed in Israel) which intercept most of the missiles successfully. You know, the technology your country also buys and ends up protecting your ass...

Who`s talking about Sinai? You want to give Israel Egypt too while your at it?

Since Israel was formed by the UN, they have occupied parts of what the UN established as Palestine. That is what the analogy refers to. I`m sorry I had to explain that to you.

I am well aware of the rocket attacks. I`ve lost track, is it an excuse for the occupation or a result of it? Does who started what matter? Obviously, the rocket attacks aren`t going to stop until peace is truly reached. One option, is that Israel ultimately begins to slowly withdraw, the other option is they wipe out Palestine.

    Are you recommending genocide?

    @pitibull

"Before the state of Israel was established there were arab palestinians AND jews on the land."

Yes, those were wonderful times, in fact, they were very close to one another for hundreds of years until Israel decided it should all be theirs. Also there are Chinese people in Chinatown in New York, but they can`t declare that their own state one day. Palestinians are not even prohibited to buy property by Israel law.

Second point, it doesn`t matter if the whole world agrees with something that is wrong, wrong is still wrong. It doesn`t matter if only one person is saying something right, it`s still right.

On your third point, the dollars was an analogy. You might consider it not worth much, I personally don`t care to own land there, so it`s not worth anything to me either. But to the people living on the land they own, it`s priceless, which is the point I keep coming back to.

You keep ignoring the basic FACT that the land did NOT belong to palestines. Some of them were on it, it doesn`t make a radius of KM of their choice theirs - so there isn`t any real occupation. Just like chinatown folks can`t clame the whole of new-york is theirs just because they live in it.
And when u say "one option is for Israel to withdraw"... withdraw where exactly? 48` borders? 67? You know... 48 borders were in 1948, so why did the arab community attack Israel back then, if that`s all they wanted?
Unlike countries who invade OTHER countries (which can then be asked to withdraw) where is Israel invading? Itself?
And all that about "it`s enough that one person is right even when everyone else has another opinion" - that`s the exact defenition of crazy/delusional buddy, better get checked ;)

Except the Muslims instituted REAL Apartheid in Jordan! And the Majority Palis must bow to a Minority King!! Correct?

Hamas and the PLO already have a "good publicity guy" called the MSM... it`s been spinning for them for decades now.
It`s a fact: anti-Semites have NO problems telling lies about or against Jews. It`s 100% self-justified in their minds.

@paperduck: "Wonderful" times? DHIMMI is NOT Wonderful! ok? You cannot "not know" what went on under the Ottoman Empire and STILL COMMENT about today`s events.

Actually, if you go by the first map, you`d be giving everything to Palestine, and there would be no Israel...I`m not suggesting that either. I believe you`d also be giving part of Syria to Jordan, which still isn`t Palestine by the way.

Which borders to use, 48? 67? I think I`ll leave that up to the people actually involved (y`know the Israelis and the Palestinians). I never did suggest which borders to use. If I implied otherwise, I`m sorry, I just thought I`d take a page out of 5cats book!

I certainly don`t think the current borders are working, and I`m not naive enough to think there can be peace until Israel begins to SLOWLY and SAFELY withdraw from what is considered "occupied Palestine". Obviously what the UN established many years ago didn`t work the first time, so any solution isn`t likely going to be exactly the same.

"Jewish Palestine" = Israel. @jays... that should be obvious...

"giving part of Syria" Because that`s where the Palestinians LIVE! At least back then. That map is based on population distribution AND the borders at the time. Again, should be obvious...

You`d leave it up to them? So you oppose the REST of the Arabic world`s interventions? Yes?
And their military INVASIONS too? True, you DO acknowledge Israel`s right to exist... unlike others...

But the "current" borders would work just fine IF THE ARABS stopped shooting rockets at Israel`s civilians! Israel should simply ANNEX the West Bank and say "that`s that" just like Russia!!

Not the "best" solution but better than ANYTHING John Kerry has offered... OR Hillary Clinton before him!

Side Note: Before Egypt disintegrated into chaos? THEY had their border with Gaza SEALED TIGHT too. Just like Israel, and for the same reasons: terror attack

I certainly don`t oppose the rest of the Arabic world`s intervention, if to help negotiate peace. I would actually encourage it. As for ultimately drawing up the borders, that will have to be negotiated (mediated) between the two parties involved.

The rockets will never stop as long as the borders stay as they are. Palestine is even more fractured than it was in inception! Truth be told, Israel could just up and leave occupied Palestine tomorrow, and the attacks wouldn`t suddenly stop...I never suggested they would. I suggested a slow and safe withdraw, to encourage peace efforts.

I don`t disagree that Hamas has intertwined itself with the government there, and full scale military action MAY be needed....it just SHOULDN`T be Israel acting alone. Ideally, it would be with more international support, including other Arab nations...

I know I`ve made jokes about Israel`s PR, but I`m serious.

We all agree that Israel tends to get the bad publicity. It sucks but they need to recognize that. They need to be more strategic, instead of waves of air strikes that ultimately kill innocents as well.

We need to remember that if the situation isn`t dealt with carefully, it will only cause more resentment, and more hate for future generations to fight over. It could easily, and significantly increase terrorist recruitment worldwide...

The maps 5cats put up are deceptive. A major misconception is that there are clear Israeli lands and Palestinian lands. In truth Israel is whole whereas Palestine is a fractured bits and pieces under Israel occupation. Israeli settlers (extremists by typical Israeli`s standards) continuously claim more and more of the remaining Palestinian land for themselves and then are are protected by the Israeli military. Here is a more accurate map of the situation:

As for the MSM being biased against Israel comment, that has got to be the most ridiculous statement I`ve ever seen. Israel is currently bombing Gaza densely populated civilian areas murdering men women and children without a peep in the MSM outlets. This comment alone tells me 5cats in disingenuous. These settlements aren`t just random uninhabited land, they`re the water-rich, prime real-estate. This also creates a problem of Palestinian people trying to go from village A to B, but running into Israeli military, who periodically kill civilians (usually males, ranging from teenagers to young adults)

This house was "given" to the Palestinian refugees, by the Jordanian government, after Jordan illegally occupied Jerusalem in 1948. The fact was, that the house and land were legally owned by Jewish owners. Because of this, Jordan was never able to give title to the land. In fact, the Palestinians living there did not have any title. The previous owners took them to court, and legally evicted the Palestinian squatters.
