I suspect the whale knew exactly what it was doing.

Amazing once in a lifetime experience and they are lucky to have had it. Also very drating stupid to have put themselves there. One breach or tail slap could have injured or killed them and that`s without the whale being aggressive.

Of course you are right, that`s why there are rules. In most places, I don`t know where this was taken. But from their voices they seemed more exhilarated than chastened. To be fair, they seemed very proficient.

And I`m guessing they had great sex later that day.

Aren`t there usually laws about being that close to whales?

it`s possible the whale mistook the kayak for a struggling infant, some species of whale often hold offspring near the surface to help them breathe

Nice Gerry. I`m with you LJ. The biggest creatures on our planet are also the gentlest. People only get injured out of accident. I have a rock shelf I sit on whilst watching the break, and it deep enough that the humpbacks will come right up, within 2 or 3 metres, and sit there and look at you. Sometimes a wave hello gets a fin wave back.

I`d risk being injured by a breach or a tail slap to have that experience.
