"Are IAB`s Liberals OPPOSED to voluntary treatments? NO CHOICE for people who seek help?"

If an adult wants to learn how to lie and pretend they are straight I have no problem with it. But it is torture to put a child through these programs. Here`s a pretty good article about what happens to people who attend these camps. Keep in mind what this guy went through was an extreme version of the "therapy". You can`t unlearn something you are born with.

Like it or not, gay rights is this centuries civil rights issue. The GOP has two choices. Accept that they have lost this fight and move on, or dig in deeper and loose another presidential election. The youth of America are the tipping vote in general elections. Continuing to be bigoted will just give the youth something to vote against.

One of the many reasons I have a love-hate relationship with Republicans. If an adult wants to go get his orientation "fixed" (emphasis on quotes) then they have every right to do so. But this statute could easily be construed to allow ass-backwards parents to put their kids through some abusive program because they can`t deal with the possibility that their children will grow up to become happy and functional homos (it`s not PC, but bear with me). Now if you`ll excuse me, I`m off to bankroll some smear campaigns against these Republicans, this BS can`t stand.

"The fact is: SOME (not all) people DO INDEED find a better "lifestyle" after this sort of therapy. It`s documented.
But only if it`s truly voluntary, obviously. "

Better lifestyle? Different lifestyle that better fits in their view of how the world should be as mandated by gray old sh*theads that live by an age old book with toatl disregard of the real world.
support for voluntary...
Are IAB`s Liberals OPPOSED to voluntary treatments? NO CHOICE for people who seek help?

Government paid-for abortions, but NO CHOICE for them! How would THEY know what`s good for them? only the Liberal Government knows!

@SmagBoy1: Surgical gender reassignment = OK.
Seeking therapy for sexual orientation issues = FORBIDDEN!

I could go on, there`s 100 more examples.

The fact is: SOME (not all) people DO INDEED find a better "lifestyle" after this sort of therapy. It`s documented.
But only if it`s truly voluntary, obviously.

Why shouldn`t a political party have what it believes is "good and just" in it`s platform?? Don`t the Dems have pro-abortion in theirs??

Okay, I`ll be the first to admit that this is pretty silly, but it`s not nearly as bad as Senate Democrats trying to repeal the 1st amendment.

Oh, AvatarJohn, I wasn`t saying they don`t support freedom of choice (although, let`s get real). That wasn`t the issue here. The only issue I was highlighting is that the Republicans want to place on their official party platform (i.e. the values they hold most dear in identifying the party and its priorities) proven quackery of no medical value that has been demonstrated to not only be wrong and harmful, but that is clearly discriminatory, bigoted and definitely *not* about choice, but about non-choice.

@AvatarJohn,
I`m kinda on your side, kinda not. On one hand, if someone is seeking help of this kind, I find it hard to say, "you`re not allowed." On the other hand, there are an awful lot of people in the field of psychiatry/psychology who feel it`s not just useless, but that it`s actually damaging. If that`s truly the case then such therapy shouldn`t be permitted to be offered.
Also, interesting, isn`t it, that they ONLY want gays to have the freedom to choose the lifestyle that they consider to be appropriate. I wouldn`t be tipping my hat to them for their support of "freedom of choice" any time soon.

As an lifer conservative, I have to say that this is wrong. You are not going to accomplish anything here but make the rest of the GOP look foolsih by association. This is classic example of how the GOP always always always wrests political defeat from the jaws of victory... erg.

Ooh, there`s a catch! A nice young man who`s been having sex with other men for years has suddenly been restored to "normalcy." And now he likes boobs! If only I could meet me one of those...

People need to mind their own business. They sound like the old racists I remember form the 70`s. Luckily, their kind is an old dying breed.

"No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to this type of therapy."

How dare they support freedom of choice, those evil Republicans!
