There was a time where you could sit down at a bar, order a drink and strike up a friendly conversation with your fellow bar people about this, that and the other. Those days are gone. Everyone sits there playing with their phone. In silence. Stupid. Everywhere you go, people just staring into their phone. Recording what they are seeing instead of just seeing it and enjoying it in the moment. I think it`s sad.

ferdyfred: I don`t even own a game console, just too damn poor to buy one. Sux2Bme. So, don`t lump me into the "gamer" group. Even so, I see the texting, twittering, facebook, selfie, instagram culture as completely stupid.

I really should commit suicide, but I deserve this life.

and I feel guilty for taking my phone out of my pocket to see what time it is while on a date. Honestly, I`d be sorely tempted to slap it out of her hand.

i spend most of my time alone at work and with my dogs at home. i can`t imagine doing or experiencing this, mostly because time with other people is sometimes precious. but, as mentioned by others, i come from a generation who would rather experience things than document them.

I`ve only ever taken photos of my food once - at the tasting for my wedding, so I could review it later and make a decision. The photos then formed part of our memory box of our special day - because, (and it`s cliche for a reason) it went so fast, I hardly had time to take it all in and remember it properly. I couldn`t exactly take the photos during the day, so I had preemptive memories!

I cannot imagine being so rude as to constantly be on your phone when you are in someone else`s company. It`s the epitome of bad manners.

I have a Chinese girlfriend and ALL her friends are like this!

...seriously, she spends more time taking pictures of her food than actually making and eating it... and anyone that knows Chinese know they spend a TON of time in the kitchen!

Oh Yeah- that I get, and indeed do. I come home from holiday with maybe 30 pictures- once I weed out the crap. They don`t document it- they remind me of it- I have younger friends who seem to see the world through a filter- they do photograph the food- I remember how it tasted. .

@Madduck: I agree, but it is convenient to have the camera on your phone to take a picture or two.
I don`t mean a pic of your food or a pic of a turd to show the world what you ate and what it turned into.
But you know, pics of a place you went or pics of friends, normal memories type of pics so you can reminisce later on, not to instantly upload so everyone knows what you`re doing and to see how many likes you get.

This is why I sometimes miss the days before mobile phones.

I am very grateful that I am of a generation who knows how to actually LIVE a moment- not try to capture it for later.
