What do you call a drummer without a girlfriend?
Homeless.

But not Ringo!

He made millions and married a supermodel....
I`d say he was good enough.

Ringo was a much better drummer than he will ever get credit for being. If you don`t believe it, just try to imagine how the Beatles would have sounded with Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, or Carmine Appice.

I rest my case.

The problem was he couldn`t stay sober long enough to record. Half the time he was passed out in the corner. That`s why they had to use somebody else.

There is also a theory that this quote is a jab at the fact that the Beatles first drummer was named Pete Best.

MrOrange, I`d say Ringo was the ideal player for the Beatles` sound. Their songs needed taste, not flash. What he did, he did well.

You`ve probably heard the story about Paul re-recording Ringo`s drum parts on the White Album. If that did happen, it may not be so much that Ringo didn`t do a good job, but more an example of Paul`s ego at work. Hard to say, because you hear different versions of that story. Judging by Paul`s drumming on his first solo album, I`d take Ringo`s drumming over Paul`s any day.

Jake, as far as i understand the myths around the beatles, it was because Paul was actually a better drummer then Ringo, esp in the early years.

of course how much of this is true is unknown.
considering Paul wasn`t a bass player to start off with but a guitarist, and how he wrote some rather classic bass lines, he was a gifted musician, who knows?

Once again, good old Ringo takes it on the chin in the name of comedy. Funny quote, though. Sounds like something Lennon would have really said.

Ringo was no virtuoso, but he was a tasty payer. Just imagine "A Day in the Life" or "Rain" without him.
