Nice job pointing out statement made mostly 2 decades ago, and mostly by Dixie Democrats.

Care to tally that against just what Tea Party Republicans have been saying for the last 6 years?
He said many times that his opinion was that Colin Powell knew many of the things he was saying to the public were false...
So, what you`re saying is, it`s okay to use racist slurs against people if you honestly disagree with them.

*sigh* @Jops360: You need to educate yourself. I can SHOW you the truth, but I cannot force you to believe it.

Strom Thurmond: KKK - Democrat

Robert Byrd: KKK - Democrat

There`s PLENTY more where they came from.

@Gerry1: Darn tootin! All `persons` are equally capable of bigotry. NO group is exempt from it.

Everyone`s racist. It`s normal. Denying that is like denying evolution or gravity. Better to recognize it and make appropriate changes.

5kats - "They were formed by, and most members were, Democrats."
really? how do you know this? did you take a census or something? thats a pretty bold assumption given they wear hoods and keep their identities secret.

@Barry9: They were formed by, and most members were, Democrats.

So they`re "liberal" in the sense that they`re Democrat supporters, and opposed to the Republicans.

Welcome to IAB! :-)

Nice one @MelCervini! Liberals HATE IT when they get quoted accurately :-)

@pmarren: Just watch the MSM, it`s a daily event that >REAL OR IMAGINED< The Repubs get accused of racism. They chant it every day, even though, as @CaptKangaroo mentions, there`s EQUAL amounts on both sides of the aisle.

Equal "white men" equal "rich people" it`s like Twiddle-dee and Twiddle-dum: Hard to say where one begins and the other ends, they`re so much alike (in many, but not all, ways).

The biggest problem is the one-sided coverage by the News Media. THAT is a huge problem!

all this is telling me is everyone can be racist. white, black, hispanic you name it, they all can have biased hate. the real problem is people let it drive them to do something. looking at the president and all the crap he receives daily makes me believe race has a hand in how he is seen.
then you have the southern states(where the rebel flag is still raised) and you see a trend. poo, not even a month ago someone "linched" an Obama mannequin over an overpass here in Missouri. was that racist? dam strait it was and it just shows how biased people are about him. he has been fighting an uphill battle from the beginning. starting out he had an oil spill no one would take credit for, then the economy, then wars on more than one front. he is not a magician, there was not an easy/fast fix for the country and anything he tried has been fought against. his time has seen the most inactive congress to date, even though 90% of the stuff he proposed was first thought of by the right

patchouly-
So the point of this is, because some Liberals have made racist comments, it`s okay for us to do it?
The point is, of course, that while ALL sides have been guilty of making racist comments, NOT all sides get called out on it or suffer any consequences.

One side can say any racist thing they want.
-That side`s response: `What he/she MEANT was....`.
-Media`s response: `what?`

The OTHER side can say something racist:
-The opponents side`s response: `RACIST BASTARDS`.
-Media`s response: `RACIST BASTARDS`.

In fact, the OTHER side can say something that is not even remotely racist..and it will be `deemed` racist or said to `sound` racist or is classified as a `code word` for something racist.
-The opponents side`s response: `RACIST BASTARDS`.
-Media`s response: `RACIST BASTARDS`.

I`m pretty sure that bigotry comes from both sides of the aisle, but it`s fun to have one side portrayed here. Who will find the one slamming the republicans and post it here as a response?

Oh, and Cats = Suck

I think it`s sadly amusing that most Americans buy in to the Left VS Right illusion that politicians and the MSM uses to distract and divide the populace.

Gotta defend Belefonte on his quote in there. He said many times that his opinion was that Colin Powell knew many of the things he was saying to the public were false, but that he must feel he has no choice as part of Bush`s cabinet. Something which eventally was revealed to be absolutely true. Powell eventually even called his own speech to the U.N. a lasting blot on his record.

Belefonte`s analogy was harsh, but rather apt.

Besides, Belefonte was blacklisted during the McCarthey era for his support of the civil rights movement. Also he bailed once MLK out of jail. I`m not really inclined to go around assuming I or anyone else knows more about racism in America than he does.
