llaa-
Check out Niven and Pohl`s "The Space Merchants", you will not be disappointed.
Great Book, but it was Pohl and Kornbluth.

Now, if you want a GREAT book by Niven, Jerry Pournelle & Steven Barnes, `The Legacy of Heorot` is a must read.

@MeGrendel: I`ve read a ton of Asimov`s stuff but will certainly check out Larry Niven.

I rather enjoyed reading this again.

Terry Bisson. I first read it in on of The Year`s Best Science Fiction collections (or possibly in one of Asimov`s anthologies)

If you like that, I`d suggest any collection of short stories by Larry Niven. (His `N-Space` has both short stories and anecdotes).

They forgot to add war-mongering, self-destructive meat.

Most of our attempts to communicate with extraterrestrial life is based on hydrogen... Oh well, we are just ugly bags of mostly water...

I recall a "Golden Age" short story where metal-based life forms avoid Earth because: there`s water (H2O!!) everywhere! NO chance of intelligent life THERE they conclude :-)
Similar sort of conversation, only those aliens never detect us.

So what`s the shy but sweet hydrogen core cluster intelligence?!! Could it be the FSM?!?!?! :-)

Where have I read that before? I`m not calling "repost" (I don`t mind reposts anyway), but it`s weird to see something that I swear I read at the dawn of the internet back when we had computers at college specifically to do text emails.

I liked that a lot. I`ve got a couple of star war books somewhere written by the same guy, Terry Bisson but I was given them and haven`t read them. I think I`ll put them on my to read list now cause I really enjoyed that little scene.
