durdikkimeng: I don`t think coloring these photos detracts from them. Quite the contrary, they become instantly easier to see clearly, and are a step closer to our reality. When I see rare color footage of WW2, it is the same thing: somehow less remote and more real. A B+W image is immediately and obviously an old image from another time. And no one`s destroying the originals, so get off your high horse.

I was oggling the hottie (in the dress) in the background of "Unemployed lumber worker, 1939" but Audrey Hepburn put me over the edge.

Bit of trivia...Alfred Eisenstaedt, the Jewish photographer that Joseph Goebbels scowled at, also took the last picture here of the sailor kissing the woman

Nikola Tesla = one of my heroes.
Were it not for Nikola Tesla, we would not be looking at any of this stuff.
No debate, work it out for yourself.

Very nice, but does it detract from the originals?
Making them seem like they were taken yesterday takes a little of the wonder of an old photograph away. Especially for todays muricans who are stupid.

Thank you, ElectricEye. Consistent with, yes. Included in, no. Sometimes the thumbnail makes me curious about the thumbnail itself, and when it isn`t within the post, I`m confused and disappointed.

Excellent collection. Really, really nice. And Audrey Hepburn was such a beauty.

Hate to point this out, but the photo of Gandalf was mistakenly identified as "Walt Whitman."

I liked it better when the thumbnail for the post was, you know, an actual part of the post.
