I`ve seen the Hope Diamond. Very cool but you are only looking at it`s reflection.

It`s funny how the human brain will find patterns and try to rationalize them, in this case, as superstition. What would be odd is if we didn`t have coincidence. That would be a statistical anomaly worthy of investigating.

The Madden curse is attributed to the statistical phenomena "regression toward the mean". If any athlete has a good year it is very hard for them to sustain that to the next. If you consider who makes it on the cover (players who had a good year) you understand why they usually have a less than good the next.

Technically, Patch, everything you see, you are looking at it`s reflection.

I`m not sure I get what you mean. Sure, you are seeing reflected light, but that`s not a reflection of the item itself. An item`s reflection is when the light bounces off the item and hits a reflective surface before finally hitting your eye.

Anyway, with the Hope Diamond, they store it way down in a lower room, then use a series of mirrors to reflect the image up to the viewing window where you can see it. Given it`s value, you can`t blame them.

Our Cubs will never win the WS because it`s been so long that when they get even close, the pressure is too much to bare and they choke.

I think they should`ve just given the 2008 WS to us for the 100 year anniversary, for pity, and to manually break the curse. ;)

BUT ... I`m not a life-long Cubs fan because they`re the winningest or anything ... they`re the hometown team. They`re my Cubs. The Cubs are just something special. It`d be like rooting against your kid`s high school team because another school has a better record. :) I`ll be a Cubs fan `til I die, WS win or not.
