"The code IAB runs on is old, and cannot be changed, because they can`t or won`t pay a programmer to fix it."

There, fixed it for you.

I Do Not Mind The Censoring For Foul Language, But The Rest Of The Code Really, Really Needs An Update... How Have They Not Fixed Titles Requiring all Caps By Now, Or The Inability To Recognize Various Characters In Titles And Subtitles?

@The_Gent: Titties AND kitties! What more could a person want? (A sandwich, of course, but other than that?)

@Naz14: The code IAB runs on is old, and cannot be changed. The "censor" is part of it, and there`s nothing to be done about it! So I`ve been told. It gives IAB a certain charm :-) and we`re better off without constant swearing anyhow.

Ya know.. Nickel has a point. If the age demographic has gone up for IAB, why the hell cant we type a swear word in the comments and not find out it got changed to not-nice individual? You can post almost naked chicks, but we cant say a-s-s without it getting switched?

Purely as a matter of interest, Has the age of the forum members increased or decreased? What are the general changes in the IAB demographic?
We get a lot more big words being used now, so something must be changing.
In 20 years time I see the trend towards toothless, rocking-chair-bound old curmudgeons sitting on the verandah shouting at all passers-by.
Could you run a post on it? (post a post... post a run... do simmink)

What fun would IAB be without the arguments. The only thing I would improve is people should debate with informed logic rather than fallacy, ad hominem attacks and partisanship... but then that would leave the Conservutards without a platform. *

I originally made an account because of all the anti-Christian posts that seemed to always make it through. I remember the first link I found was some naked fat guy running circles around a news reporter. It was funny. I came back because of things like that. I made an account to voice pro-Christian thoughts. There weren`t many, if any others back then.

I love this site! I come here far too often and there is ALWAYS something interesting/provcative to see. Good and bad, flame-wars and catgirls, I come to 1)take my brain out and be entertained 2)dive into the comments. :) It can be spicy and it can be infuriating and I come back for it like the masochist that I am. It takes a LOT to piss me off and I have lost 2 keyboards over you guys, but I`ve learned more than been butthurt from both the various submisisons and from the comments therein. Thanks :)

*p.s. if I raged on the keyboards over MB posts, perhaps the chat being broken is a good thing ;)

I went back and started looking at post about 5 years ago, not many arguments or debates. Although the ages have also dramatically increased on the current posters ( if were all using our actual ages of course ). The historical post dont appear to based around a forum for debates.

"There is a good chance that most of the people you remember simply stopped posting due to the trend you noticed"

Yup. This site is now my last resort site for curing the bored in me due to it always being the same people spouting the same bullpoo. All these years and none of them changed.

There are many others too like patchgrabber, turdburglar, davymid and more. (Sorry if I`m leaving people out but there has been a lot)

Point is even though arguments, name-calling, trolls, flamwars, etc. are more common, it is still very possible to come to agreements or at the very least an amicable difference, and I`ve seen more of that on this site then any other, even if it is uncommon.

I agree with @bliznik that the arguments seem to be a far broader, you can see it in politics, the internet, TV, and radio. Honestly I think its linked to the growth of the internet, and the economic instability the world has seen.

People everywhere have experienced or seen problems and come to conclusions about what the problems are. The internet intensifies these feelings with generalities and sloganism through biased articles, news, and videos.

That`s just my view though, but with that being said, here on this site I`ve seen something that I don`t see on other sites. People with totally different views coming to agreements on things. I can tell you in my own experience I`ve had great conversations and debates with people like Normalfreak2, Holygod, Kain1, and even my old nemesis Squirls4sale, where even though we believed completely different things we were able to hear each other out and came to amicable conclusions.

I`ve noticed more name-calling/arguments/trolling on many other sites as well. I think there is just generally much more hate and intolerance in the world today than there used to be.

Keg, all it takes is one person to start that ball a-rollin`.

Personal opinion: There is a good chance that most of the people you remember simply stopped posting due to the trend you noticed. Why make a simple joke when someone is going to overreact and steamroller you with inanities?

Crazy thing is it wasn`t always this way. I remember coming to this site in my early days and very few people were constantly spouting all their religious and political bullsh*t. Now it`s almost all there is, even seemingly innocuous post generally devolve into some BS about left vs. right, atheist vs. Christians. Kinda sad.
