I`ve never been to the Ocean (after seeing the picture, I`m not sure if I should be putting a sad face or a happy face after that statement).

Its a photo from National Geographic. It was taken at night and they used lamps to attract all the animals into a dipper full of seawater.

    "@5s What`s Spore (the game)?"
    -------

Spore was a pretty cool game created by the guy that made "The Sims". Basically, you start out as a single celled critter and you slowly collect parts to evolve (Better teeth, stronger swimming fins etc. etc.). As the game progresses, you move out of the water and onto land, evolving as you go. Eventually, you have a full race of creatures and you attempt to set up relationships with other creatures through space travel (either taking over planets or becoming allies).

Diatoms are extremly common in seawater. If you want to see some, mix a small amount of tooth paste in water and put under a microscope. The mini shrimp in the pic are cool

The two long ones could possibly be pennate diatoms with a raphe, however there are curved ones there as well that look similar so it`s possible they could be some kind of closterium. There are no circular diatoms. At most I can see two, and I`ve spent the whole of my scietific career studying algae, first in biodiesel and now in flue gas remediation.
