A Tour Of Denmarks Copenhagen Zoo In 1955 [Pic]

Submitted by: ElectricEye 3 years ago in Misc
Denmarks Copenhagen zoo was founded in 1859, making it one of Europes oldest zoological institutions. Over 27 acres are filled with animal enclosures and tourist attractions.
No matter what you feel about zoos in general, these vintage pictures of Copenhagens zoo will blow you away. In 1955, it was a completely different time. People held many beliefs that are vastly different from modern ones. These images from that time are so strange, they seem downright crazy.

Back in the day, people had some certainly strange ideas about what should happen at a zoo. It sure looked fun though.

Didn`t they have a black people exhibit among all the animals?
I know this because there`s an artist trying to do the same today and he`s getting a lot crap.

Bear in mind that this is currently the world`s most infamous zoo (since Baghdad Zoo closed).

Isn`t this the zoo that likes to murder surplus giraffes?

What`s the purpose of keeping captive animals if you can`t f*** with `em?

Very nice post, thanks.

Watering penguins looks very satisfying! Also that man with the hippo is pretty brave/silly putting his arm in that meat and teeth clamp.

One correction, the second photo is not from 1955. It shows Administrator Bent Jørgensen who was active between 79-94. Also they didn`t have fonts like that in the 50s.
