Brace yourself for this, a US House of Representative member has introduced a bill (H.R. 3590) this afternoon calling for the ban of assault knives. Included are survival/combat knives, machetes, and two edged blades. Any blade longer than 4 inches can still be purchased by permit only according to the bill.

"Bloodbath". I love how the media likes to sensationalize things. I mean, it`s not bad enough that these kids and parents have to deal with this, but the media says "Hey, lets get ratings by adding the word `bloodbath` to it!". /sigh

These horrible instruments of death, these `Assault Knives`, would be banned in any civilized society. They were designed for one reason only. To KILL!!

There is no legitimate reason for a civilan to own an AK (Assault Knife). Only the police, the military and trained proffesionals should be allowed AK`s.

We must do it, FOR THE CHILDREN.
    (did I cover them all).

Oh wow! You mean banning guns won`t stop people from getting attacked or killed at school?

Oh, and to the Europeans who want to knock on American violence, you may want to check your history. The worst ever school shooting occurred in Europe (Russia), and 8 of the ten deadliest school shootings didn`t even occur in the US (5 of them happened in Europe). So cool it.

"..notice how the headline says "20 Hurt" not "20 Killed".

It`s still as bad as a school shooting. There were several people with critical wounds that could`ve (and still might) kill one or more of them.

Deranged people will use whatever is available. Clubs and baseball bats kill more people in the USA than rifles. It`s just stupid to blame guns and then give all other weapons a free pass.

"Clubs and baseball bats kill more people in the USA than rifles."

Please stop saying that. Please. I`ve asked you before.

I assume you are basing that off the FBI report where the category "Blunt objects (clubs, hammers, etc.)" is higher than rifles?

The ETC is kind of important here. "Clubs and baseball bats" ABSOLUTELY DO NOT kill more people than rifles. They only do with ALL OTHER "blunt objects" including hammers, crowbars, rocks, sticks, pipes, 2x4s, statues, trophies, paperweights, staplers and EVERY OTHER blunt object used in a murder in a year.

So please stop disseminating bulls.hit that has been grotesquely twisted by right wing blogs either intentionally or by ignorance as to what "etc" means.

I agree with everything else you said.

Oh no one died this time so it`s ok lets ban guns that must be the problem it`ll fix everything! Progressives using a mental health and school issues to push for gun control as a solution..... Great logic there.

"Hey dipS**t do remember how many people die in that knife attack in China?"

    1. I don`t know why you guys felt the need to immediately turn a tragedy about a knife into a referendum on there being no reason to regulate guns.

    2. Do you not agree that for the average person the easiest, quickest, most efficient way to kill as many people as possible is a gun?

    "lets ban guns"

    1. You guys turned this post into a gun debate.

    2. Nobody on this post, or really anywhere else, has ever said let`s ban guns.

    3. Some additional regulation may have helped recent events. Mental health screenings or lockup regulation could have kept newtown shooter from having such easy access to guns. Mental health screenings or regulation to online shopping or limits on accumulation could have red flagged aurora shooter.

You are aware they do regulate guns? When`s it enough? For this case do you want to regulate knives now?

    1. I don`t know why you guys felt the need to immediately turn a tragedy about a knife into a referendum on there being no reason to regulate guns.

LOL! Because the opposite side never does that.....

You saying that since I think there is room for additional regulations that may make the public safer means I want to ban guns is like saying since I support seat belt laws and speed limits I want to ban cars.

Problem is with your side it`s never enough and that`s how a ban is done slowly incrementally.

Awful lot of may and could haves... Yes lets destroy part of the constitution put there for a very good reason for a maybe.... Or perhaps we could stop blaming object and look at the real problem cause maybe that could have most definitely probably works.

    I can buy 5 AK47s

    100 high capacity magazines
    5,000 rounds of ammunition

I can do this all legally in a short amount of time.

"Yes lets destroy part of the constitution"

    Destroy? Really?

Do current regulations "destroy" the constitution?

The constitution gives the right to bare arms. It doesn`t specify that right is without regulation and condition.

I have nothing against the right to bare arms. I own a gun. However I don`t think crazy people, or criminals have that right. Do you? Does taking that right away from them "DESTROY" the constitution?

I don`t think that making a gun safety course mandatory before you can own a gun destroys the constitution.

I don`t think making online purchases illegal destroys the constitution.

I don`t think mandating trigger locks or gun safes destroys the constitution.

Can you shot 5 AK-47s at once? Technically they`re not really AK-47`s also cause they`d be semi auto. "High Capacity" what would the definition of that be cause the military calls 30 rnd ones standard. SO different standards for civs now? Not very standardized. Body armor don`t now laws on that but pretty sure some is restricted. Would a Katana be a high capacity knife now?

NO, NO YOU COULDN`T. Unless of course you`re talking about on the black market which would be illegal. You see a full auto firearm is considered a class 3 firearm which means for you to own it you have to have a class 3 license it also has to be made before 1986. When purchasing this extremely expensive item you have to get some $200 tax stamp with the ATF which puts you on their lists. Even then some places it`s outright not legal. So ya you can`t just go buy one and they`ll check you over big time if you do.

See now that I don`t have an issue with. That is really not the issue people have with these arguments though.

I don`t think making online purchases illegal destroys the constitution.

I don`t think mandating trigger locks or gun safes destroys the constitution.

I don`t think those help anything what so ever. Buying online or at a store are simple tasks both are following the law or they would be shut down. As for locks all locks can be defeated with the right tool.

Ok. Cool so in your mind ANY regulations "destroys" the constitution.

An 8 year old should be able to buy a gun.
A diagnosed manic-depressive schizophrenic should be able to buy a gun.
A recently released felon in prison for murder should be able to buy a gun.

If they can`t it "destroys" the constitution correct?

    That`s funny.

Yet, Massachusetts rates among the highest in the country on lists about health, wealth, education, happiness, etc.

States that are the heaviest conservative rate the lowest on those scales. What does that tell you? Just pure coincidence right?

NOTHING is perfect. However if it was a law that guns had to be kept in a safe and Lanza`s mom followed the law he might not have been able to get his hands on them. If selling ammunition online was against the law Holmes might have aroused suspicion when he tried to buy 3,000 rounds in a gun store. No? No chance?

It tells me that has nothing to do with the subject we`re discussing and you paint everyone who disagrees with you as a conservative which I`m pretty sure I`m not. At least not with everything. Back to the actual subject where does it rate with gun crime now? I can tell you gun crime has actually risen not gone down despite some of the strictest laws in the US.

Because PEOPLE don`t kill people, only KNIVES do! Oops, I mean GUNS! Only guns kill people, nothing else.

An 8 year old should be able to buy a gun.
Can an 8 year old be part of the Militia? NO? Then why say such a STUPID thing? Ditto for your other "strawman examples".

I don`t think that making a gun safety course mandatory before you can own a gun destroys the constitution.
Making the "course" cost $1,000? Or only offering it to 100 people per year? Or other draconian methods of "Jim Crow" constitutional violations would NEVER happen! Except in Chicago...
    THAT is how.

Hint: Chicago has tried many gun control "end arounds" to avoid Court Rulings and continue to violate the rights of it`s lawful citizens. Just fyi...

Like the Colorado (iirc) law that said you could open carry (because the courts forced them to) BUT it couldn`t be loaded. THAT sort of unconstitutional abuse of power is COMMON on ONE side of the Gun Control Issue.

Correct: No, it would NOT have alerted ANYONE about ANYTHING.
And there are 100 ways to avoid detection if a criminal is determined to buy ammunition.
And name ONE CRIME in the USA in which 3,000 rounds of ammunition were fired. ONE! I throw down the gauntlet.
Aside from The US Government slaughtering it`s own US Citizens of course... (Waco, Ruby Ridge, Trail of Tears, Wounded Knee & etc)
