There were Nazi supporters all over the world. Britain and the USA included! It`s no shock that some people in occupied nations were very pro-Nazi.
No point in pretending it wasn`t so.

I wouldn`t go so far as to suggest the whole nation of Holland was like that though... France perhaps...

@Zeegrr60. Dude, that`s a pretty ill informed thing to say. Unless you`re trolling. Then I`d say, good effort. But either one makes you look pretty dumb.

It`s Holland. They were Proxy Nazi`s. They were on the Germans side (NOT neutral).

Thanks guys, I would never have known. I couldn`t find anything in English on it, best I could find was an entry on the dutch wikipedia.

Could one you start an entry onto the English Wiki?

My grandmother was a resistance leader in Zeist and Utrech during the war. She managed the escape routes for pilots and Jews to escape to England in that region. She told many stories of brutality, daily visits by soldiers who would run bayonets through the walls at random, etc. After the war, she and my mother had to emigrate to Australia because of the accusations of collaboration, where compliance to the occupiers was a necessary tool to survival and success in the resistance itself.

Initially there were about 300.000 people arrested and locked up for collaborating with the Germans. It`s call `axe-day`. (Google bijltjesdag and you will see the pictures).

People who had worked together with or had (romantic) relations with Germans were taken out on the street where they where beaten and had their head shaved and their faces smeared with tar and where then thrown in jail.
Later estimates show that about only 100.000 of those people where really collaborators.

Keep in mind that in 1939 (invasion of Poland) there only lived 9 million people in Netherlands. So roughly 3.5% of the population was arrested for collaboration.
That`s almost 1.5% more people arrested than there where people killed in the Netherlands during the war (and this includes the amount of Jewish people who where taken to deathcamps).

I`m sure this sort of thing was wide spread, it`s just impressive that this young person found out AND spoke out!

Goodness knows the USA did the same thing to it`s own citizens when it "interred" those of Japanese descent and took their properties away by force.

Never forget just how easy it is for the Government to both destroy your life and then cover it all up afterwards...

"If soldiers still had to pay their taxes while they were gone, then how is this different than that?"

About 100.000 people were arrested in the Netherlands for collaborating with the Germans and those are the ones that got arrested, I reckon a good number never made it that far and were just executed on the spot. Also not even talking about the large number of women who were publicly shamed by having their heads shaved and paint thrown over them for fraternizing with German troops before being ostracized.

That`s ridiculous Auburn. Think about what you said and your false correlation.

God- how dreadful... well, it was a long time ago, the people responsible are probably long dead so the least the place can do it apologise profusely.

Sick. Hrm, I wonder how many Dutch Nazi-collaborators were arrested after the war? Seems like none were.
