In Old Bagan, Burma [Myanmar], a young monk finds a perfect light source to read his book inside a pagoda.

I don`t think they are. I believe most buddhist monks are very limited in what they can have. Basic clothing, needle and thread, a bowl, a razor, basic hygiene kit ... . It varies but mostly as few possessions as possible.

Obviously a monastery would need to own kitchen kit, spades, brooms etc. but individuals are generally expected to keep it down. If you see a buddhist monk with a watch or wearing after shave he`s a wrong `un.
