Drac, there are several subsets of Buddhism ... and they`ve got their extremist kooks too. :)

Getting upset over the destruction of a material object would be missing the point of buddhism.

They should be glad it was a little boy and not a cat...

Well, surely one can`t expect a small child`s parents to be keeping track of him! I mean, really.

I always wanted to create a sand mandala but I dont have the patience to do it or the forgiveness of the Monks toward a kid like that.

Buddhism is one of the few religions that I believe contributes to world peace and happiness.

Except in Burma. But I digress.

heh ... haha ... LOL ... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

The irony is not lost on me, and kudos to the monks for setting aside their initial heart-stopping reaction to realize that this inadvertent proof of concept was even better than their planned symbolic one.

I`m just glad it wasn`t my kid. lol.

if mandalas are to symbolizes the cycle of life and death, then the boy destroying it before its time should be seen as the uncertainty of death..

I don`t really see the problem with it.

This is made to show the fleeting nature of life? What could be more of an example of that than new life destroying the work of older life?

+ infinity points to the monks.

Reminds me of that school shooting in the Amish town, and the biggest part of the headline was that the town forgave the shooter.

Oops. The monks understood, and perhaps they ( or someone) should have made sure children could not get to it. I am sure the Mother is mortified, and accidents happen, more than a few priceless treasures have been destroyed by accident.
