Lesson: Don"t bring a bat if you are too drunk to use it. He was lucky the bouncer was a nice guy.

Here`s what I saw. I must have misunderstood: "At any rate, this is a good example of why one should take care of business immediately if they plan on getting physical, especially if a weapon is involved." I thought you were saying the baseball bat should have been swung without any warning. My mistake and apologies

@kcorb:

"So you are condoning the use of force of one person in a surprise attack on another? Why not de-escalate things by not bringing a bat or other weapon or even yourself and creating a situation where either party can have violence on the other. No matter who or what was the cause of the initial hostility, the last move (going back to confront) was the wrong move IMO."

I re-read what I posted and I don`t see where I condoned a surprise attack with a ball bat. If that is how you interpreted it, please know it was not my intention.

Personally, I would never come after someone with a ball bat - unless he had done something truly horrible (like raping and killing my entire family, only to get away with it where the law is concerned). But I feel pretty safe in saying that kind of scenario is extremely unlikely.

I`m with you - I usually go out of my way to avoid physical confrontations. :-)

Spoken like a true internet scholar who`s never had to deal with a guy swinging a bat at his head. Yeah, it`s not the most efficient weapon but trust me when i tell you you`re going to get hurt

The police in America should hire this guy as a consultant and show this as how you try to handle situations instead of unloading your clip to end a threat.

No, If this were a cop he would have continued the beating long after the threat was taken care of.

Baseball bats are a terrible weapon. Their range is precise and useless. More than three feet away and it`s out of range, closer than two feet and you can`t hit properly.

Unless you`re there, `poised`, even a five year old can take you down.

Either the guard is a whole lot calmer than I would be if I saw a guy come at me with a ball bat, or he didn`t see the man coming. Or maybe he knew who the guy was, and knew he didn`t have the balls to really use the bat, who knows?

At any rate, this is a good example of why one should take care of business immediately if they plan on getting physical, especially if a weapon is involved. If one is going to bring a bat (or knife, or gun, or crowbar), don`t waste time - use it. Or this is exactly what one will get.

Now that`s how it`s done.
A cop would have emptied his gun in the guy.

Or the drunk fool would be dead. And bouncers aren`t cops. He`s seriously good at his job.

Well done, security guard. A measured application of force. Give that man a raise! :-)
