Does a vicious group of these drooling apes automatically constitute a gang now?

I know that there are many decent African-American citizens in our glorious nation, the USA, and would/do not refer to them as drooling apes. But the beings in this video are in fact uneducated, disgusting, drooling apes of a lower echelon.

And being anonymous on the internet is debatable, and also irrelevant. I would say EXACTLY the same thing in any venue - don`t project your behavior onto everyone. I could care less if you think my very appropriate and fitting use of the N-word to describe those thugs is racist. There are plenty of us who say what we mean, and mean what we say. I would not be ashamed, afraid, nor embarrassed to call these people out to their faces.

And finally (once again) if you`re so concerned with racial slurs, what do you call all the references to apes I`ve seen throughout this thread? And what is the difference between using the phrase "the N-word" and actually saying it? It`s a BS game no matter how you want to slice it.

Personally, I think you enjoy being self-righteous. I don`t mince words when a situation clearly justifies the use of disrespectful terms. To be racist, I would have to say that ALL African-Americans are the N-word.

"Let me see if I`ve got this straight: You`re upset because you can`t anonymously post a racist comment using the N-word? Really?

I`ll tell you what I`m getting out of all this. I think it stings to be called out for a racist comment. And rather than conduct a minute or two of self-examination and possibly conclude that, Yeah, using the N-word is more than a little racist, you`d rather pick fault with anything else you can possibly find to point at."

My comment is not racist. I am not referring to an entire race but rather a group of very specific individuals who are acting like the N-word, and even refer to themselves as such.

I am 100% comfortable with my views: I accept everyone and give them respect UNTIL they give me a reason not to. This video gives me a VERY good reason not to respect those N-words.

I may be many things, but I have never been called a racist by anyone who actually knows me.

@squrlz:

cen·sor [sen-ser] noun

1. an official who examines books, plays, news reports, motion pictures, radio and television programs, letters, cablegrams, etc., for the purpose of suppressing parts deemed objectionable on moral, political, military, or other grounds.

2. any person who supervises the manners or morality of others.

3.an adverse critic; faultfinder.

-verb

4. to ban or cut portions of (a publication, film, letter, etc)

5. to act as a censor of (behavior, etc)

Sorry, but according to the dictionary it is censorship. Saying it isn`t doesn`t change the fact.

Also, I see a number of comments on this very post that are overtly racist, yet they stand. In my book, that`s selective and inconsistent enforcement. It tells me that if the policy is aimed at preventing racism, it`s both poorly conceived and poorly enforced.

If the issue is really about profanity, then why do I regularly see the filter being defeated on this site, and not a word is ever said about it? This is literally the first time I have ever seen the issue enforced.

Besides, what is this, the 3rd grade? Based on the subject matter and content of many of the posts on this site, I find it a little absurd that anyone should get hung up over some profanity. It just strikes me as being very trite and controlling. And I can think of absolutely no laws that prohibit the use of profanity on internet sites (at least none that ever get enforced).

@ Llaa: I think you`re touching on what I was referring to earlier when I said that knowing the background here made the story more comprehensible. (Note that I used the word *comprehensible*--not *understandable* and most certainly not *excusable*.)

I lived in Philly for several years and still go into the city frequently. There are certain areas that you just KNOW you don`t go into after dark. And even in the daytime you make sure you`re alert and are aware of your surroundings.

Again, I`m not excusing the actions of the perpetrators. They ought to have been thrown in jail for some significant time. But as soon as I learned that this guy was alone, so drunk that he didn`t know what he was doing, and in the wrong neighborhood after dark on a holiday when the streets are filled with intoxicated hooligans--well, it made what happened a bit less shocking.

One last thing: Comparing the work of a moderator to a dictator`s censorship is off--way off. (Take it from an ex-newspaper reporter.) You`re able to post comments on this site at the pleasure of those who run this site and according to their rules.

Here`s a concrete example of what censorship is NOT: You send a letter to *Playboy* arguing that nude photography is immoral. *Playboy* declines to publish it. You have NOT been censored.

Here`s a concrete example of what censorship IS: You are writing a blog that criticizes your state government. The governor shuts down your blog and threatens to imprison you if you criticize him further. You HAVE been censored.

@ Piratefish: Regarding your second comment--

Honestly, you`re a bit worked up and I don`t know what you want of me. I`m not "hiding behind" my moderator status: I`m doing my job. I`m a moderator; I moderate. Part of moderating is telling people to not use inflammatory racial slurs and deleting comments that contain them.

Thems the rules. If you have an issue with them, e-mail Kitteh at the "Contact I Am Bored" link at the bottom of the page.

Be that as it may, when you are aware that the profanity checker changes a certain word, and you find a way to write the word out without activating the sensor, you are purposefully breaking the rules. I`m a Mod, I have to enforce the rules, I don`t want to hide what you have to say, I just ask you to say it without breaking the rules. I`m not trying to manipulate your freedom of speech, I just don`t want to cause any problems for the site either. We have contracts with other companies, it may be them who choose this, I don`t know. But I don`t want anyone to get angry that we don`t do what we are required to do.

@piratefish:

Look I didn`t make the profanity filter, and I can`t delete peoples comments. I can`t do anything about other comments. I agree with you on one hand that it is redundant to have a profanity filter when the video uses bad language and I`m not calling you racist.

What I`m saying is that for one reason or another, whether it be legal issues or preference, the site does not allow profanity in the comments. If you`d like me to talk to someone about it, that`s fine, I`ll get you an answer.

But these are the current rules, so when I`m asking you not to override the profanity checker, I do so out of a sense of the legality of the site, I don`t know why it is the way it is but it is. And if a Mod comes in here and deletes your comments because your overriding the profanity checker, I`m sorry I have to side with him, he has the rules on his side.

I`ve had ferocious arguments about censorship on here, I think it just propagates the problem, mysel

@Squrlz:

Calling a very specific group of individuals a fitting name is hardly a racial slur against an entire racial group - especially when that is how those individuals are referring to themselves. Think about it.

And suggesting that I want to attack popular black culture simply for being at my limit with "reverse" discrimination is a troll move. Then you want to run and hide behind your moderator status when you know full well that I only said what the majority of people are thinking, and what any reasonable person would likely expect as a response to some of the racially inflammatory posts that make it onto this site. Hiding behind a randomly enforced, goody two shoes "no racial slurs" policy is cowardice and censorship at it`s finest, a move than many dictators would be proud of.

My remarks were not racist, but simply calling it like it is using the EXACT same language used by those in the video.

My complaint is the hypocritical and randomly enforced "profanity" censor. I have noted dozens of other instances (even one in this very thread) where profanity and racial epithets were allowed. I`m merely commenting that the policy seems to be randomly enforced (especially when some posts themselves contain disallowed language).

I don`t doubt that you were simply trying to highlight the problem with violence in Baltimore. There`s violence like that in every major city (especially in Chicago the last couple of summers). And it`s very frequently racially motivated with blacks targeting whites. People are getting pretty sick of it, and I see nothing racist about using a term that A) fits the situation, and B) is the EXACT term used by people in the video to describe themselves. Just saying.

Want to complain about hypocrisy among black leaders in ignoring black-on-black crime? Have at it, hoss!

But you want to use racial slurs and hate speech? Sorry; not on this site.

I`m the one who posted this, and if you must know I didn`t post it as a racially oriented video. I posted it in response to a previous post about baltimore`s violence and crime being linked directly to the drug trade, as you can see drugs were not the issue here, unless you talking about the guy being drunk. I can`t help it that it`s black people vs. a white guy, thats just how it was.

Anyone who knows me knows I`m not in favor of censorship, but squrlz is correct that it is against the rules. He is with in his rights to delete your comments. Other people have been able to fully express themselves without resorting to racial slurs, that is not the issue.

The issue is you want to to override the profanity check. Thats your choice not mine, and you reap the consequences of your actions.

The moderators on this site are hypocritical, spineless cowards who use censorship to delete content that is highly appropriate given certain material.

It`s okay to post racially motivated attacks, but when someone responds and calls it what it is, their comments are deleted, and they`re threatened with being banned. How hypocritical and how cowardly.

If you don`t want people making certain comments that you know are very likely to be made, quit allowing inflammatory material to be posted.

Guys just so you know the next biggest gang here is Dead Man Inc., they are mainly white. They all do stuff like this. Honestly, most people in Baltimore are black, there are tons of good blacks here. Most of my neighborhood is black and they are great people who stand up to the gangs.

The problem here is that everything is so politicized that the people who commit vile awful crimes are allowed to go free and do it over and over again. Because slogans like the word "Believe" take the place of judicial and political responsibility. This doesn`t even skim the crap that happens here and I`m sure in other cities as well like D.C. and Detroit. It`s the violent gang culture that is allowed to spread unchecked, not the color.

If the roles were reversed, there would be jail sentences for hate crimes, riots and looting in the streets and our pious, self-righteous community and religious "leaders" calling for an all out race-war.

How can animal-like behavior like this be allowed and, looking at the lack of punishment for the crime, virtually encouraged?

I can only imagine the President`s reaction if this were the other way around: "If I had a drunk son/cousin/brother, he would look just like this poor guy."

Man, I so dislike seeing negative stereotypes perpetuated like this.

Also most of these people never saw the inside of a jail cell, they got suspended sentences. Maryland dropped 13 of the 24 total criminal charges filed against them. Of those who did go to jail, two got three years and two got one year, but those sentences were commuted to less time because of time served in the holding cells and then even those sentences were suspended further. All of them are back on the street today.

I don`t think it makes it any more comprehensible, I see drunk people and I don`t rush out attack them, steal their stuff, strip them, and humiliate them afterward. I`m sorry but insinuating that he`s partially at fault because he made himself a target because he was drunk on St. patricks day is no different than saying that a girl is partially at fault because she made herself a target of rape because of what she wears.

The point is the guy was walking back to his room, peacefully and legally, and a gang attacked him for no reason. Being an easy target is not a reason for an attack to happen, even if they are animals.

The mob`s behavior is horrifying. That`s my Point #1.

Point #2 is that knowing the background of the story helps to make it a bit more comprehensible. This was on St. Patrick`s Day two years ago (2012). The victim was drunk out of his gourd and disoriented, which is part of the reason the mob went after him. He woke the next day in his hotel room with bruises and scratches from the punches, but with no recollection whatsoever as to what had happened. A relative of his happened to spot the phone video online; it had been uploaded by one of the mob members.
