Last year there was a Texaco on Loch Raven Blvd., a gang member wanted the money in the register, he didn`t even give them a chance. He just put his gun up to the window, shot everyone, walked in took the money and walked out.
During snow storms they will go around stealing peoples tires and in the summer they kidnap and ransom people who are trying to to stay cool outside. On lemon street they won`t even walk off their damn porch, they just start shooting at other gang houses and just walk back inside like they were picking up the newspaper.
I have alarms, dogs, and a ready arsenal in my house just waiting if they want to come by and try to sneak in. I don`t take any chances with them. But if people think they`ll just meld back into society after making drugs legal, I don`t think you really understand who your dealing with.

I`ve lived here my whole life, you know what causes violence in Baltimore, gangs. The Black Gorilla Family and Dead Man inc. are the worst of them, not to mention the Lemon street gangs. Take out drugs and they`d still market stolen auto parts, marble stoops, robberies, etc.

They are truly evil people, we had a neighbor that lived seven doors down from us. I talked to the guy who lived there a few times when I walked my dogs. He would just stand by his mail box and smoke his cigarettes, not too bright but a very nice person. His wife called the cops when a guy from the Black Gorilla family through a brick at his head just for fun. The cops found the gang member and arrested him. The rest of the gang came to their house raped the wife and her kids, stabbed their grandmother, hung the parents, and made the kids watch. They are vile sociopaths, almost all the murders and crime can be attributed to the gangs. They will steal and kill for whatever they want.

Living in a country that has on the surface pretty good situation with drugs and has very progressive stance on many issues.. Doesn`t work even with a LOT leaner sentences. Homegrows increased by 75% in one year and there is now huge group of youths that have permanent record.. Cops can search any apartment just for a "hunch" and only very recently people have started to get enough and have told the press what the reality is like.. I know for fact that the police here are giving out freepasses to informants, which is totally against the law: there is no law that would allow any change in sentence if you tattle or not... It`s only narcs that are dirty, otherwise the police is not corrupt and trustworthy: we don`t fear our police.. Narcs break the law daily and we have our head of criminal division on trial for smuggling dope.. Narcs are the only dirty cops, funny, aih?

But you can find "drug prohibition" to have vastly differing outcomes among the 40 or so European countries, under both the same and different laws. It`s all about the demand. So yes, Americans love their drugs more than most other people.

I`m not even arguing what *should* be. I`m just arguing the economics behind why controlling drugs in America would be so difficult. I swear, economics should be required in high school, because I see so many economic mistakes on a daily basis.

chalket - this might surprise you, but different groups of people are different. This goes not just for drugs, but everything. I know you agree with this. Guns are an example. British people will inherently have less demand for guns than Americans. This will make controlling them easier. That`s one example. You could also look at beer or wine consumption, or even fine cheese consumption for something more benign.

Here`s one example for drugs. Japan. Another one. Taiwan. Progressives like to pretend Asians don`t exist. They give this away when they say "rest of the world" to mean "Northwestern Europe".

You see, Japanese people have less demand for it. That makes it easier to control. I know it shocks people like you that different groups of people behave differently on a macro scale.

"Drug prohibition actually does work in other countries relatively well."
What countries? By what standards? I call BS. Why would you think Americans are more drug-prone than all other nationalities?

The biggest mistake was underestimating just how much Americans, especially lower income ones, love their drugs.

Drug prohibition actually does work in other countries relatively well. It`s about demand. Governments can never prevent something there is tangible demand for. This goes for other things like guns, too.
