@ Turdburglar: Now, now, TB. Different people have different levels of comfort for kidding around about race. I, for one, am pretty skittish about racial words. No need to get in HOBYandy`s grill over this. Can we just agree to disagree?

This is surely staged.
There is not a person on the planet that is this oblivious with the possible exception of Ollie.

wet back! wetback!

HOBYandy -
Don`t put too much effort trying to feel offended.

Does it make you feel better than everyone else by pretending to be offended? I`d bet, that deep down, you aren`t offended.
I`d bet that you say "that`s racist" so you feel like you are better than everyone else.
Maybe you`ve been taught to feel guilty? There is no need to feel guilty.
No one is selling slaves here. Jokes are O.K.

Take a joke. Funny or not, it`s a joke.

Beaner, beaner, beaner, I am allowed to say it...but you can`t!

Nothing`s sadder than the guy who yells "that is racist" when the minorities around him, who could feel offended, realize it`s just a joke.

pejorative? Really? Yea, you`re surely the ideal spokesman for all minoritys.

You`re funny.

"Can someone explain wet back to me so I can get offended?"

Wet back is a derogatory term for Mexicans who have come to the United States illegally.. as in: "They got their back wet when they swan across the Rio Grande; so we will call them `wet backs`."

Also, the term became popular because Reba Mcentyre made a song about Mexicans trying to cross the Rio Grande.

That is actually a skill saw.

ElectricEye, when originally posted it was written as just one word. It`s since been edited. Not trying to stir the pot or anything, just wanting to make sure we`re having an accurate conversation.

First off ...it`s not "wetback"...it`s wet back, as in he has a wet back and it might be slippery.

@HOBandy WE all know that words expressing contempt or disapproval were used in the past and are not politically correct, and even may be offensive to some. But there is a certain amount of humour to be had using them in the correct context. Part of the joke is the fact the racial slurs were used way back when and now they really have little to no meaning to anyone who is educated and living today. The use of such terms is used to portray a certain amount of ignorance or lack of modern conformacy by the orator. Sometimes that is funniest part of the joke.

In this instance though...I think it is more of a double entendre...meaning it is written one way, but could be interpreted two ways. One of the interpretations is rather obvious whereas the other is more subtle.

Anyone who wants to bring up the `swear filter` may want to hold those thoughts, because it is supposed to be fixed in the upcoming week.

HOBYandy are you the same guy that freaks out over the spelling or misspelling of damn it?

Absolutely the wrong reaction, Kitteh. First of all, declaring pejorative terms okay because they have been used before makes no sense. It was a problem then. It`s still a problem now. Pressing the issue as a simple joke and stating that individuals are "too sensitive" about it and that they should lighten up only dismisses the issue and further isolates the ethnicity directly referred to by the term.

Kitteh, Squrlz, if you guys are okay with it, that`s cool. Just wanted to point it out as there are certain words that I reckon are on the edge. To me, it`s not a word I would use, but I didn`t use it. :-) I know that naked Pam Anderson is offensive to some and they have to live with it, so you won`t hear another peep from me on thise. :-) Thanks for having a look at it, and no offense meant to the OP.

Squrlz4Sale Good call on not moderating the other mods.

SmagBoy1, As far as being too sensitive over a joke:

Exhibit A
Exhibit B
Exhibit C

Should I go on?

I also have it on good authority that crap4brains, is himself, of the Mexican persuasion and so he is allowed to make jokes at his own expense.

Lighten up it`s Friday. Why so serious (PC)?
I-A-B is known for having plenty of the crudeness, and makes it available for everyone.

@ SmagBoy: I agree with you. I`ll drop a note to Kitteh and the other mods to see if whoever put it through is inclined to change the description. (As a mod, changing material others have already put up is generally a no-no.) Thanks for calling the item out.
