@Gauddith if you really considered yourself equal, you would not give a sh*t about being cat called... and you won`t give a sh*t when the cat calling stops as you age.

Andrew155: "What world are you living in?"

The one that chastises men who show any effeminate traits while accepting women who show masculine traits. It`s okay to be a Tomboy, but god forbid our boys play with barbies.

Oddly though, we don`t want men to be effeminate, we just want them to feel secure in expressing those things if that`s what they want. I don`t care how "emotional" a guy is, I just care that he is happy, and shows that.

Go figure, I just want everyone to be happy... pretty crazy concept eh?

Also, I`m happy you`re okay with being cat called. But not everyone is okay with it. And it`s entirely possible to respect other peoples boundaries in that manner. I`m sorry those ladies aren`t showing you respect.

8/13 in 2:04.

BTW, what, actually, is the difference between a philosopher and a troll? Seriously.

"I believe that the way we are taught to demean femininity and praise masculinity is."

And to the surgical alterations, well, you can chalk that up to many women not feeling like they match the narrow image of beauty from advertising and media. Many women see those altered images and feel like they don`t fit into that.

Then other women see how fake those women are, and feel like they want to be just as beautiful. It becomes a self perpetuating cycle. Initially coined to sell some shallow product by a fatcat marketing mogul.

Many guys say they don`t care, and that`s been helping break that cycle, but remember, it isn`t all for you. It`s also for them. And so yes, some women go to extremes to feel beautiful.

@Drawman61:

If I do put on makeup, there are two possible reasons. One is because it makes me feel good. I like feeling worth it. It`s a kind of zen, now I don`t know if there is a parallel with men, but who knows. Think of it like this. You put on a tux, and you feel like James Bond. Suave, smart, and dangerous. I put on my makeup and I feel sexy, dangerous, and classy.

The other reason is because if I`m out on a date, I want to look good for that one guy. My makeup is not a welcome sign for you to approach me and think you`re going to impress me. It never will be. To use that as an excuse to be a total freaking creep is not just dumb, but sexist. c:

Gauddith - Or to be cat called while I walk to the bus

Isn`t that why women trowel on the make-up, spend 1000s on hair, nails, fake tans, teeth whitening, implants, short skirts, tight tops, high heels, etc etc?

5cats, your perception of modern feminism is hilariously wrong. I don`t think men are scum, I enjoy the company of men, and even like to talk to them. I, however, don`t like it when a man tells me to shut up because I`ve made a point that shows an inequality. Or to be cat called while I walk to the bus. Or to be approached in a manner that is unsettling and made to look like a bitch because I didn`t reciprocate their "kindness."

I do not believe men are bad, I believe that the way we are taught to demean femininity and praise masculinity is. I believe that both have their purposes, and both are inherently good. And you, as a person, should do what feels right.

Actually Angillion- you may be right in certain cultures- BUT not in western Europe for quite some time. Hundreds of years- women such as Julien, and Hildegard may have been some of the last before woman began to be erased. They were second class citizens legally and culturally- with the exception of certain peasants and a few, very few lucky women who could make their own money. Until mid 1800`s coverture was the way it went- womens legal rights were subsumed by her husband- he got the lot. Many women went from their Fathers ownership to their husbands. pick up a good early 20thC history book- look up Lettice Knollys, look up in fact any one of numerous women- you will not find them, They were considered irrelevant- history was about men- it may have been made by both sexes- but the women got ignored. I understand the nuances- but the right to be pregnant does not count for much when you have no rights over your own children.
if you believe that women are superior to men in various ways...
@Angilion: excellent POINT! I`d never thought of it that way before.

Since modern "feminism" thinks all men are scum? I`d say they believe women are totally superior in every way...

Pretty darn random! Philosophers? By what definition? Same for trolls, just who qualifies?

Also: In the answers? It only shows what you picked if you`re wrong. I don`t remember which ones were which, even if I got it right, lolz!

Over the centuries a lot of wise AND stupid things have been said by philosophers, plenty of fodder for both smart and dumb quotes. Ditto for trolls :-) Yes! There`s smart trolls too.

Angillion wins.

Also, we really need to stop judging the people of the past from our ivory tower situation now. Why?

Well, women HAD to have as many babies as possible way back then for the human race to exist. Even as recently as my Great Grandma - she had 17 children. This was normal, yet if you look at a population graph it`s rather flat for most of human history until around 1800. If women only had 2 babies on average in the Middle Ages, humanity would be toast.

It`s called division of labor. For most of human history, women slaved away having babies. Men slaved away working the fields and dying for kings who didn`t care about them. For some reason the latter is considered more glamorous, but I don`t think so. Just bloodier.

In nature the male is predominantly physically stronger so we can`t argue that point. As we evolve, we accept that intellegence is the balancing factor. We are equally gifted on that score but men are driven by more competetive, fighting instincts whereas women are driven more by emotion and nurturing. These are not faults, they are natures design. Our problem is each sees the others traits as weaknesses.

"Everyone knows" these things are true, but many will deny believing women are superior to men because feminism hasn`t yet been quite successful enough for it to be normal to say that openly. But they obviously do believe that - if you believe that women are superior to men in various ways, either you believe men are superior to women in equally important ways or you believe women are superior to men overall.

People probably think I`m talking nonsense, precisely because they`ve been so well taught to believe it that it`s not a matter of thought any more.

There are a whole slew of ways it which it is normal to be sure that women are superior to men, to know it as fact without thought or evidence required. Some are traditional beliefs, e.g. women are more compassionate, more empathic, less aggressive, more civilised, etc. Some are new sexism or old sexism with the sexes swapped round, e.g. women are more able to learn, more intelligent, more mentally stable, able to multi-task, more able to endure pain, tougher, etc, etc.
This is the point though- once upon a time everyone thought women were inferior
That`s not true, obviously, but the most useful propaganda is usually very simple.

Once upon a time many people thought that people were defined by their sex and male people and female people were fundamentally different to each other.

And that`s still true today. Maybe even becoming increasingly true, as it`s an inherent part of feminism and that`s a dominant force.

Once upon a time, most people thought that men were superior in some ways and women were superior in other ways. Many people, including some powerful people and some powerful ideologies (notably religions) taught that men were superior overall.

Nowadays, most people in "the west" think that women are superior overall and a powerful ideology (feminism) teaches that so well that it`s normal to take it as gospel.

So who defines a troll? The definition used appears to be that they disagree with feminists.

Sad isn`t it. This is the point though- once upon a time everyone thought women were inferior- nowadays we know they are not. Sadly though a lot of our culture is built around an out dated concept- and some people still believe in that concept.. which disadvantages everyone- not just women.

"there`s no way of distinguishing the two"

That`s the point.

Pretty horrible quiz. Unless you know the quote, there`s no way of distinguishing the two.. I read a few and then just put random to all of them and got 9 out of 13. Reading the answers, yeah, it`s totally random.
