@12chars- You don`t mean to say that Lynch`s `Dune` is the real one, do you? I`d take Jodorowsky`s non-film over that one.
Interestingly, another Dune is being developed- whether for big screen or tv, movie or mini series- or series, I don`t know.

I would like to have seen Geiger`s Dune. I personally liked SciFi`s Dune Messia/Children of Dune best. I Did Like Lynch`s Dune as well. It had a certain style.

Lynch`s version is closer to the books, except for the ending. I hate the "make it rain" ending makes Paul out to be a god rather than a man that is worshiped as a god. Ya know, like historical Jesus.

There was so much cut from the Lynch version. I wish Lynch was able to release his director`s cut but it seems from interviews he`s haunted by the releasing theatrical cut of his film.

There is a special cut on the internet with the scenes added from the television 3+ hour cut, its better than the film earlier releases but still lacking Lynch`s final edit.

The Sci-fi Channel. Back When The Sci-Fi Channel was good...
    ...i.e., before it became SyFy.

Regarding the Lynch version, as I heard it, Frank Herbert insisted that every single scene from the book be put on film. The problem with that, though, was that when it was finished, the movie was 14 hours long. Quite a bit of material was added to the theatrical release to make into the 4-hour version (less commercials) that was later shown on TV, usually over 2 nights. I keep hoping that one of these days, someone will take all that film and make it into a week-long miniseries.
