Nye walked into that one a little bit but to think lions ate only plants until Eve ate the apple is just beyond credulity so it`s hard to argue about. He should have just let it go because you can`t argue with silly.

I don`t know why this "debate" is such a big deal, it`s being portrayed as the ultimate showdown on the interwebs.

Yes, i`m a bit baffled by why the debate is such a big deal too. I actually watched it and i hear people saying Bill Nye won, but it`s a bit of a grasp, because they both presented their pieces, and answered some questions and that was it. I would have called it a draw, which is as these things usually go.. Both had some thoughtful points but that was about it. I guess, some folks need to make it a `big deal` on the net, even if it wasn`t really one at all.

you cannot reason with the irrational, you cannot teach the willfully ignorant. there is no way to debate religion, its to far from being real to use reality as an argument.

The best thing about this whole debate is when Ham was all talking about there being ONE book that outlines the creation of the universe and the rules that bind man.

I CAN NAME SIX SIR. I CAN NAME SIX.

I just couldn`t, I didn`t agree with him, but I listened to his arguments, laughed at some of his jokes, and shrugged the rest off as his faith.

But then he said that and I just couldn`t anymore.

Bears, like us, are omnivorous and have molars for grinding just like we do. Lions do not, strictly meat eaters.

The problem with the evolution vs creation debate can be summed up in their answers to one question that was asked during the Q&A.

    What would change your mind?

    Ham - Nothing
    Nye - Evidence

@Gauddith I`m with you. As soon as he said that I thought about all the religions with similar tales about the creation of the world. Native Americans had the turtle back story, Egyptians had their`s, Greek mythology, etc. etc.

    @747Pilot

I see this as a win for Nye just based on the substance of the arguments. Bill Nye raises issues with Ham`s model and asks him to explain himself as well as offering examples that Ham fails to explain or even address.
Ham`s arguments boled down to"the bible says" and "no one saw! you didn`t see it happen! no proof!"
I love his contention that the laws of physics and nature could have changed

Arguing with an idiot just makes people wonder which one is really the idiot.

This was beneath Bill Nye and wholly unnecessary.
It just lends credence to the babbling morons.

Well, you start by debating liberals...it gives you plenty of exposure to people not bounded by reason, logic or facts.

This, coming from an individual who has already demonstrated that you have no idea what `libertarian`, `tea party` and `liberal` means and who gets such definitions from liberal slander, is pretty damn funny.

Patchouly said "It`s always funny when you pit logic, reason and facts against fairy tales, ignorance and unwarranted blind faith." Problem is the divide is so great in the US that no one even agrees on what the facts are or are not. As a devout Catholic, I cringe when I see things like this. Most Catholics do not take the Bible as a history book. It does it a great disservice. And the argument "God wills it!" is so shallow when used in this context. If I feel pulled towards a certain career or to fall in love with a certain someone, then hey, if you think "God wills it" then more power to you. But to argue repeatable science with that is simplistic and sad and I don`t think very Holy at all. There is still plenty of room for faith where science has not taken us yet.

The bible was not written to be a scientific textbook, or even a literal history textbook, and I agree with papajon0s1 when he says to argue that it is does it a great disservice.
