Coolness. Also, thank you for NOT doing Bohemian Rhapsody. That`s the most overdone in the entire universe. (Yes, I know that is not a Yes song).

Kudos to their teacher (the bearded guy in this video) for encouraging them to work on interesting material.

They also cover a Gentle Giant song.

The audio engineer is the one that should get the praise.

Decent rendition. What it lacked was.. some balls, the girls sounded like they were very timid in the studio. Not the easiest job to do when most likely the whole class is listening in the control room and singers are just afraid to make mistakes. It sounds exactly like that, when covering Yes you need to be very very confident and start every note with a bang.. That`s the "thing" about Yes sound, it`s precise and full. Thous, copying Anderson is.. impossible, his interval steps are just soo pure and with a high attack, fully confident that the note he is going to produce is bang on right..

Afugy: might be, he might also be the reason behind those lackluster singer performance. What ever happened in that studio, the singers don`t sound comfortable. Sound it self, yes, top notch, nothing wrong there.. But it is recording audio engineers responsibility to get the best sound out of performers. Tricks that i`ve used, candles.. low light. Touch of room reverb on monitors (dry record..), delay added to monitores. Beer, joints, sauna. Rigging the recording booth with a remote and leave him/her to put take after take while i grab a pizza... Oh, input/output latency, that needs to be set very carefully, otherwise the singer has essentially 50cm head size, it makes singers stumble on plosives.

OK, nothing special though. A few years practice needed to achieve the same level as Yes. Lacks brightness and punch. I agree with J-J on this one, good to see kids attempting something less run-of-the-mill.

Nickel2, according to the teacher`s comments at YouTube, he specifically uses simplified arrangements and slower tempos when working with students on this type of material (Yes, Gentle Giant etc.). These are young music students, not pros. Critiques should be proportionate to that fact.
