@TheZigRat, "How can they take a 2 page short story and tuen it into an hour and a half movie?"

They compiled it with like four other short story ideas and yeah spoiler, aliens. I would only press the button if it was someone who was going to die anyways and without me pressing the button wouldn`t pass on. Or that`s how I would sell the idea to myself.

"I`m here to pick up the button. I see you pushed it. Here`s your $million."

"I gotta know, who did I kill?"

"Why, the last person who pushed the button, of course."

With that million dollars, you could save a great many lives in the third world.

However, only a psychopath would say that.

I was always paranoid enough to think that if i pushed the button that i would be killed by the person that used it after i did.

Nope. Not even if I could be sure that none of my friends or family would be harmed, I would still refuse.

Stupid question, because you can never really know what you really would do. It is easy to be outspoken about a hypothetical case, but real life is not that

`Nearly all men can stand adversity`

Not me. I fall apart under aversity. Now, power, give me a shot at that. I`m sure I`ll be grand. You can trust me. Go on. It`ll be fine.

Whatever happened to "do unto others as you would have them to do unto you" or "an it harm none, do what ye will"

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man`s character, give him power.

Wasn`t it le Vey with his Satanism- one rule? Do what you want- but pay for it. Sensible rule to live by.

Karma ain`t a thing. Do right, do wrong. Take responsibility. That`s yours.

no karma, no vicarious redemption in the blood of the lamb. Do what you do and own it. That`s who you are. Now live with it.

Can I choose option C? No, because while I don`t care about people I`ve never met, karma is somehow going to bite me in the ass for it?

I think this concept was a Twilight Zone episode? It soooo sounds like something Serling or Matheson wrote? But I dunno if it was from the 60`s versions or the 80`s? Wasn`t there some flop movie too later on? :::too early to google:::

This is based on an old short story. In the story, the couple who receive the button eventually push it. When the man comes to give them the money, he takes the button with him. When they ask, "what are you going to do with the button", he relies, "Give it to someone else, someone you don`t know."

Hmm- Part of me says yes, BUT I am not sure. At some level I suspect it would haunt me- even if nothing bad happened to me- the knowledge I had caused someone to die would set me wondering. I think that on balance I would rather not...

Yeah, but you know there`s always a catch to these things. Like one of the people you don`t know is the scientist who discovers the cure for the disease you die of a year later.

"Didn`t know" is the important part. Never met these people, never will, hopefully their deaths are quick and merciful.
