@piratefish: You are half right. The US was a contributor to the war in Europe. The second front, however, was meaningless for Germany. The Germans were on the rope well before the second front was ever opened. The high water mark of German success was Stalingrad. Once the German 6th Army was surrounded on 23 November 1942 Nazi victory became impossible. D-day didn`t happen until June of 1944.

The largest contribution the US made to the war in Europe was to supply trucks to the Soviets so they could concentrate on building armor. The Soviets faced 90% of the German military on their own. All the other Allies combined faced the other 10%. Germany never transferred fresh troops from the east to the west. When eastern front units were moved west it was because they were already decimated.

The biggest difference the western front made was in the post war world where it provided the border for the fall of the iron curtain.

"Ahaha! The old "we have saved your asses twice"-argument. That`s getting old. Very untrue also. The Allied Forces were more than just the USA."

Calling it old doesn`t make it any less valid or relevant.

And it is a pretty much undisputed historical fact that the US involvement in WW2 was the decisive factor in Allied victory. The UK was literally on its knees, and without the US opening a second front for Germany, the Soviets would have been in very serious trouble.

Ask any historian, especially a military historian, and they will tell you unequivocally that the US was the deciding factor in WW2. Without us, Europe would be German right now; like it or not.

I do think this "fact" is because Connecticut forced it`s population to register it`s guns.

And finally, tiredofnicks, you`re from Scandinavia, right?

Norway has a 1 trillion dollars sovereign wealth fund.

Why don`t they share it? There are people who need that money, but Norway is just hoarding it. Norwegians are the 1%ers of the world, and are keeping all the wealth for themselves. Any Norwegian who believes in massive redistribution, but thinks the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund should not be shared with more needy countries is, quite frankly, an idiot.

You would be an idiot to believe in redistribution, but still support hoarding all this wealth for the privileged few.

I really don`t think these Eurocentrics understand that poor people in America receive and enormous amount of benefits and free money. Education, healthcare, housing - more of it is free than you guys realize. Have a baby? Government will pay for you to live for 18 years. Ask my aunt. You can also get a free iPhone. Hell, even my first college degree was free, paid for by the government. That`s cheaper than my Dutch gf`s.

There`s also a clear lack of knowledge about the frackton of social program available. They are everywhere.

The main difference is that our middle class does NOT receive this. Stop acting like there is no American welfare state. America`s welfare state is far greater than you can imagine. Do some actual research, do some actual travel.

It`s brilliant, they`ve created an underclass, a dependent one that is incentivized to stay that way.

Tired of nicks and ilikelogic

Stop equating "the rest of the world" to a "few select countries in Northwestern Europe". That`s what you guys do all the time, and it`s unbelievably Eurocentric and elitist.

And also, you`re lack of tolerance is showing. Go whine some more.

I`m one of those people who doesn`t have healthcare, I`m right here - your oppressed person. You don`t care what I have to say. Go back to that hole from whence you came.

@piratefish "But then again, we`re not perfect like Europeans are (never mind the fact we had to save you from yourselves twice in the last century, you smug bastard)."

It`s a little unclear who you`re addressing. They might well come from an Axis country.

"To me you seem like a nation of egoists stuck in an archaic social system and living in a constant state of fear, fear of terrorism, fear of your government, fear of your neighbors, fear of change."

Do you even know how Obamacare works? It is NOTHING like the socialized medicine most Europeans and Canadians enjoy. Obamacare forces everyone to sign up for expensive, crappy healthcare, and does absolutely NOTHING to address the skyrocketing costs of US healthcare. In fact, it actually increased the cost. In America, we do not believe in the government having the ability to force anyone to buy anything against their will simply because they are alive. But then again, we`re not perfect like Europeans are (never mind the fact we had to save you from yourselves twice in the last century, you smug bastard). And while I`m at it; you`re damn right I fear my government, they no longer follow our Constitution. And terrorism doesn`t scare me, our anti-terrorist laws do.

It`s obviously got to do with the fact it takes less time to get a gun permit than to sit and try to register on the Obamacare website.

I have never been attacked nor has my house been broken into. I believe the "daily" assessment may need some revising.

Based on the previous comments I have to say that I give up. To me you seem like a nation of egoists stuck in an archaic social system and living in a constant state of fear, fear of terrorism, fear of your government, fear of your neighbors, fear of change.

Rant over, I`m done, and hopefully I have the strength not to touch another gun/healthcare post again.

I don`t see any programs trying to make sure the poor have easy access to guns.

What a drating retarded post!

Except the gun stat would include a pool of the entire adult population of Americans, while Obamacare includes a much smaller pool and will cost everyone who doesn`t want to be poor lots and lots of money.

I`m one of those people who doesn`t have healthcare. You don`t think I weighed the options? Signing up for Obamacare is the worst option. I would be paying way more than everyone else for a service I wouldn`t need. And best yet, Obamacare will save me if something DOES happen. Yay! It just makes sense.

If I do happen to develop a pre-existing condition, no problem. Obama`s got that. It kind of defeats the whole concept of what insurance is though. It`s the equivalent to insuring your house for fires while it`s on fire. Or for earthquakes after the earthquake.

It`s because owning a gun is more useful than being forced to buy Obamacare.
