@DuckBoy87 Did you read the same thing I did because that said that a German man that worked for Coke, the only reason that they did not continue to make coke was "no means of getting ingredients". Fanta was started by coke to sell soft drinks to the nazis and keep some people employed.
... What I will say here is what I said there- up until 56 you had `e pluribus unum` on your cash- and the USA was a great nation, then you put `in God we Trust`- and according to a lot of you your country has been going to the dogs ever since. Answer- stop trusting in God- its not working for you.
Your national anthem is "God save the Queen."

@Afugy: "You mean the company that made Fanta so they could keep selling soft drinks to the Nazis."

"I have high hopes that someone will point you to Snopes
and debunk that crazy junk you`re spewing constantly"

Essentially the creator of Fanta commandeered Coke factories during WWII, not to sell soda to the Nazis, but to ensure that Coke would remain in possession of all of its assets eg the factories.

He was asked several times to become a Nazi and refused each time.

I hate all advertising in all it`s forms, this is a great example of why I feel like this.

Massive PR win for Coke - they`ve got everyone talking about it, and talking about your product gets more people buying it, even (surprisingly) if they`re negative about the advert. Over a longer time, the average amount of people using your product goes up. Why do you think Benetton used to persist with this offensive adverts?

When I saw the title I was thinking "Oh maybe people realized how bad it is for you. That kinda makes sense." But umm...it wasn`t that...*whistles*

@DavidXJ,
That was very well said. Personally, I think it`s better with the different languages because many come here not able to speak English yet and many plan to come here who don`t yet speak any English.

@Andrew155,
I have a somewhat different read of E Pluribus Unum. I think it does support multiculturalism and is saying that we are still one, as a country, despite the many cultures taking part in that country. I *hope* that`s what they were trying to say.

What Coke was TRYING to say was "Though we come from many different backgrounds, we are one unified people and love our country." But how it came across to many was "Though we all live here, you need to let us live the way we want." The only mistake they made was not singing a Patriotic song in English. The conservatives` mistake was not giving them the benefit of the doubt and jumping right into accusatory mode.

Both sides are wrong on this. The one side needs to quit with the subtle agenda that is invading everything. The other side needs to quit overreacting and making themselves seem like a bunch of heartless bastards. But this isn`t petty nonsense. It is a good discussion to have, because there are countries out there that have gotten so bad, that the people who have moved there from other countries don`t respect the country they are living in, have more rights than the citizens of that country, and disdain and have a hate for the people of the country they are living in. I think that`s what the people who don`t like this commercial are worried about. If they had done that whole commercial with people singing with a heavy accent but doing their best to in English because they are proud to live here, no one would have complained.

LOL- I was actually just being aggravating! A load of very naive, rather cosseted white women who think God ( and Jesus) favours them, they think as well that atheists should be booted out of the US,and at least one of them has issues with mixed marriages. given my family is a mut lot of different skin tones, accents etc I kinda took offense... any further ideas for annoying them gratefully received!

madduck - you have a childlike understanding of the country.

Firstly, the country was far more religious before 56, Abraham Lincoln was incredibly religious. The entire abolition movement was based on religion. 56 ironically marks when we became less religious.

Secondly, E Pluribus Unum means "From many, one". That doesn`t really support multiculturalism. That supports uniculturalism, it`s telling everyone to adhere to the "one" part.

---
But come on guys, you`re making mountains out of mole hills. You guys also keep bring up "Is this country just for white people??" even though Allen West is one of the three people they give. Black people speak English, this might shock people like madduck.

I have never heard of Michael Patrick Leahy or Todd Starnes. These are just randos bloviating.

This is one of those articles people write when they don`t have any other news.

@whodat6484 "Hawk" is not slang. As much as I hate to agree with AvatarJohn in any way in these comments, you could have taken a minute to look it up before correcting him in such a condescending way. The word was used correctly.

I just saw it as a commercial. I didn`t stop to take the time to consider any great meaning it had. I guess I can see why it would upset some while others liked it.

I would submit that anybody getting their panties in a wad one way or the other are equally guilty of ass hat behavior.

Both sides overreact to stupid sh*t, this is just another example. America is "...on the road to perdition" because a beverage company made a commercial you didn`t like? Are you fu*king kidding me?

Why oh why do we elect these retards?

But let some fake from duck dynasty rant on about gays and its FREEDOM OF SPEECH!

If they want Coca Cola to be a global brand that is sold everywhere have to accept it`s a multicultural brand everywhere. Though I just saw this as whole world is in unity with America over coke and can see the beauty in the country.... May not be true but was meant to be the sentiment...

@whodat6484 wouldn`t say it`s that uncommon In the Cambridge dictionary and not urban dictionary just don`t assume a right winger is an idiot just because their views are different to yours. Didn`t even apologise or accept with any sense of irony calling someone brain dead who used the correct word...

What I will say here is what I said there- up until 56 you had `e pluribus unum` on your cash- and the USA was a great nation, then you put `in God we Trust`- and according to a lot of you your country has been going to the dogs ever since. I think I found a source listing the languages:

English, Spanish, Keres Pueblo, Tagalog, Hindi, Senegalese French, and Hebrew

They also recorded Mandarin and Arabic but they didn`t make the final cut.

" How come no love for the American Indians?"

I suspect it`s because certain politicians aren`t actively persecuting Native Americans at the moment (although Native Americans have certainly been persecuted plenty). My heritage is mostly German and a little Swedish. No German singer in the commercial, either :).

jamie76-
do you really believe that the only Americans that are real Americans are white monolingual English speaking people?
No

jamie76-
Are the rest of us fake Americans?
No.

jamie76-
prob with the right wing is that they have always been too white and to xenophobic.
The problem with that is I know too many right wingers that are neither white nor xenophobic.

Actually, it was one of my favorite commercials of the night. Kind of a re-hash of the classic `I`d like to teach the world to sing` of the `70s

right wing conservatives, do you really believe that the only Americans that are real Americans are white monolingual English speaking people? Are the rest of us fake Americans? Was America not founded on the very principle of bringing together the most diverse group possible and from it create greatness?

the prob with the right wing is that they have always been too white and to xenophobic.

@whodat,
Actually, "hawking" is an old slang for peddling, so that made sense. Why he thinks that global warming is imaginary but it`s the left wingers who are brain dead is beyond me, though.

"They`re out of ideas for hawking brown sugar water..."

Umm... I think you mean "hocking brown sugar water..."

But that`s still not right, because to "hock" something means you`re "pawning" it because you`re in debt. The word you`re looking for is peddle.

Anyway, back on topic, what was that you were saying about "brain-dead" people?

Yeah, Coke pretty much lost me when they thought their CGI polar bears were drowning from the imaginary boogie man called Global Warming. They`re out of ideas for hawking brown sugar water so they figure they can fool brain-dead left-wing ideologues into thinking they "care". Yeah, good luck with that.

I called it as soon as I saw the commercial, hahaha! I looked at my girlfriend and said, "Uh oh, here we go, the so-called `patriots` in this country are going to go f*cking apesh*t over this!"

Sure as sh*t, Twitter & Facebook f*cking exploded with dumba$$es screaming...

"WHY ARE THEY NOT SINGING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IN AMERICAN? THIS IS A DISGRACE! BOYCOTT COKE!"

I then attempted to point out that "America The Beautiful" isn`t our National Anthem but that only pissed them off more!

Then I saw this picture someone made and started plastering it everywhere, pissing them off even more.

Tweets are not news. I have proven before that I can find a tweet about anything to justify my own position, it`s embarrassingly easy.

As for the "I hope they die soon please" thing - that`s somebody abiding by an essentially Marxist view of history. This view of history assumes that history progresses and is constantly improving upon itself until a point where everything is essentially perfect and history "ends".

It`s BS. If it`s xenophobia we`re talking about, that goes up and down. It`s a cycle, and it`s been that way forever.

Wow, a message like, "can`t we all just get along?"
Conservatives: "NO, ya foreigner!"

But it`s not unusual for conservatives to believe that "freedom of ________" means freedom to force everyone else to do the same.

My take on it was that even people who can`t speak our language can still love this country. Maybe that`s too simplistic but it seems quite a patriotic message to me.
