So someone writes something with no proof, and it`s to be taken as truth because everyone wants to believe it`s true? And Christians catch so much crap...

Koko and Michael are gorillas. Washoe and Loulis are chimps.

It isn`t the tightest poo. But it does raise my brow to the intelligence internally of our closest related species on this planet

No thinking person could call Gorillas and Chimpanzees dumb animals. I have a problem with people anthropomorphizing snail darters and spotted owls and such, but these animals are clearly very intelligent and should be protected fiercely.

"so how do you explain the gorilla signing tears at the news of the woman`s miscarriage?"

Life`s a Bitch transcends all language.

Sorry, but other people call them dumb animals... well, at least I haven`t. I hope less and less people do it.
Neat story.

Okay- Lets just run the the idea that apes cannot use language... does this mean they cannot communicate? Cannot communicate with OUR language, or at all? Are they therefore lesser in sapience than us- should we treat them as objects? These stories are intended to make us think of animals as people- not things- which we bloody well should be doing. Intelligent creatures are not here for our use... so please, lets just start thinking of them as independent persons because if we do that we may start treating them a damn sight better..

Apes using language is BS, The Straight Dope did an article on that, pretty funny read. Look it up if you want: Are gorillas using sign language really communicating with humans?

@Stormith

Was that meant to have any relevance to the post or were you just trying to show off?

The thing about apes using sign language is: they can replicate but they cannot reformulate. They can use signs and phrases they are taught, but they lack the ability to reorganize sentences and form something meaningful. Example: they can say "I love you" but without any other instruction, they cannot figure out how to say "i love that(item)". So while Michael "describes" his experience, he can only do it by using pre-formed phrases and signs, he cannot form his own full sentences.
