Link: School Seizes Lunches From Students In Debt - 40 students had their lunches seized and thrown away because they were behind in their lunch money. Thug school?

How many parents settled up the bill in the next 24 hours? This was obviously a bit extreme but let us not let parents off the hook for putting their kid in that situation.

It makes perfect sense to just throw the food in the trash instead of letting them eat it and adding it to the bill. Because the kids didn`t need to eat and should be responsible for the actions of their parents.

And people wonder why we homeschool our kids.

The schools here do this. They dont throw the food away but, if you dont have more than $6 in your account, you can not get lunch. Lunch is $2.95, so it makes perfect sense right? My boss`s kid was denied lunch, because the more money hadnt hit the account yet. No student should ever be denied a lunch, regardless of the financial situation. now im not saying kids should just fill up their faces all they want, but a decent lunch shouldn`t be held back. The schools are subsidized for lunches through taxes. Our school disctrict has 6000 kids with an anual budget of $92 million. 67% of that money goes towards staff salaries. So much wrong with that......

I used to miss lunch all the time so I could use the lunch money for weed and cigarettes to fill the gaping hole in my heart from lack of love. Besides having little to no will to live, I turned out just fine.

    That`s right, Ollie.....
    *Cut funding...
*Institute onerous programs guaranteed to fail....
    *Point out manufactured failures....
*Use those as Cause to justify shutting down the ONLY reason the majority of our citizenry is even remotely educated.

And what possible negative fallout could ever come from well over 70% of the nation`s population becoming functionally ignorant and illiterate? Right Ollie? ::facepalm::

Just wait until bureaucrats like these start "pulling the plug" on people on respirators, or withhold life saving drugs from those that don`t pay their Obamacare tax.

Anything the government gives you, can be taken away by force, for any reason they please.

@Daegog - just some FYI. The `Nutrition Department` and the people `educating our youth` are 2 totally and separate things.

This is nothing new though. A bit more extreme in this case but not new by any means. Most kids who are delinquent on payments usually get some kind of `generic lunch` ie a peanut butter sandwich instead of a regular meal.

My wife works for the public school system as a "cooker". She tells me all the time they throw away at LEAST 200lbs a food a day of food that is uneaten. Our schools throw away so much good food because of health safety rules which I guess are ok but still it seems pretty stupid to throw away so much food because no one bought it.

So much stuipid on both sides. Taking the lunch away is stupid. I mean, there is just no doubt about it - totally ridiculous. But how can these parents get SO angry when they did not make sure that their own child had lunch money in their account? That doesn`t make sense to me. I mean, if you don`t have money to put in your kid`s account, make them a sandwich to take to school. WTF is wrong with people.

Such a damn stupid way to handle it. Of course if the kids paid for the lunch each day this would not happen. And the families that cannot afford lunch were on a free lunch program, but I guess that makes to much sense.

CONGRATULATIONS! you just took something i said, changed the situations and the parameters, and attacked me on that, well done, is this your first strawman argument? keep it up!

i give you enough credit to realize that i am an adult who is aware of what he does (most of the time) there is a reason why you have to be over 18 to be able to sign a contract you know..

so a comparable situation might but it isn`t might be: my stuff getting impounded because the bank retracted my payment without notifying me.. anyway you`ll work it out..

Something very brutal and thuggish about this. I cannot picture Jesus (who just about everyone in this country professes to love and follow) taking away children`s food because their parents didn`t (or couldn`t) pay for the meals.

The food was already purchased and prepared. Throwing it in the trash instead of letting innocent, hungry children eat it is despicable. Whoever ordered that action should be moved from their position or let go. Clearly they do not have a grasp on propriety or humanity.

    Wrong. Just plain wrong.
