If I have to get a drug test for my job and random drug screenings from time to time, no reason they shouldnt have to get a drug test for theirs.

I want a Constitutional Amendment that says "Congress shall pass no laws that the Congress, Senate, the President, nor any other Elected Official, nor any Government Officials appointed by the Congress or President are exempt from."

Let the bastards face the same things we do. Like paying for their healthcare.

    test all the bastards.

i worked at a clinic that didn`t test because the corporation bylaws considered the physician partners to be employees. because they didn`t want to get tested, no one was tested. drug and alcohol events among the senior staff were the norm rather than the exception and few weeks went by without an incident. keep in mind these were DOCTORS who had people`s lives in their hands.

so yeah, i`m in favor of testing the bastards. and not only congress, but ALL branches of government all the way up to POTUS.

If they want people in poverty do it, they should do it too. It`s not like most people don`t do it.

If it`s okay to drug test children so they can participate in after school activities, I`d say it`s okay to drug test politicians... But mostly I just want the bastards hanged.

Apparently Americans want to drug test EVERYONE! According to that article.

I have a better idea: LEGALIZE IT!

    >Empties jails!
    >Save billions in enforcement!
    >Generate billions in taxes!
    >Makes `drug gangs` much less powerful.

So many benefits, so little "downside"...

    Obama: did drugs
    Bush II: did drugs
    Clinton: did drugs...
    Bush I: ? possibly
    Reagan: ? possibly
    Carter: ? likely
Ford: constantly... ;-) He signed the Warren Report after all... had to be high to believe that P.O.S.

    Test them all.

I have a feeling most will resign or retire, just so they don`t get caught. Either way, it`ll clean up congress, because I swear, half of them have to be high on something.

Damn near everyone else has to piss into a cup if they want a paycheck and so should they. Especially the ones who say people on welfare/food stamps should because they receive it from taxpayer dollars. Their paychecks come from taxpayer dollars so they should be required to piss into a cup too. And f*ckers like Boehner should have to take a breathalyzer before they start "work" for the day. If you show up to work wreaking of booze chances are your employer will send to get one, especially on construction sites.

Of course they should be tested, it`s common sense.

Which is why Congress won`t go near it.

Here`s a hypothetical question: if 0.1% of all people do drugs and a test can pick out the user 98% of the time and can tell you a person is not a user 99% of the time (in other words, 2% of the time a user will come out clean (false negative), and 1% of the time a non-user will come out as a user (false positive)). What is the probability a test subject is a actually a user after getting a positive test result?

Post answers to this hypothetical problem and then think about testing congress, or the more ridiculous notion of everyone on welfare.

@paperduck - The way it`s done in the military is that if you pop positive on a piss test you`re given a second one immediately. If the second one is negative they write it off as a false positive but that pretty much guarantees you`ll be "randomly" selected for a drug test every month for the next few months, happened to my roommate. If it`s positive again they go for the hair test and if that`s positive then you`re f*cked.

whodat6484: yeah, they`d have to do multiple tests on all positive results because the consequence is huge. 1 or 2% false results are about what actual tests have. Imagine in congress and the publicity that would have, and most of the public wouldn`t understand or opponents unwilling to acknowledge that the test might be wrong, essentially ending a career of who knows who. Welfare is worse, as a guy I know suggested everyone on welfare should be tested monthly. With 10 million people we`d spend billions administering such a program.

    98 out of 100, 49 out of 50, 196 out of 200.

    If your statistics are accurate.

"and a test can pick out the user 98% of the time"

means that 98% of the time, it will accurately pick a user.

Jades no, you need to factor in the possibility they were clean and got a false positive.

Well, 5Cats, one of the rare times that I have to agree with you.

Who gives a crap if someone smokes a joint from time to time? No one freaks out if that same person has a glass of wine. It`s the same thing.

Of course, you have to make sure they aren`t smoking crack while in a drunken stupor...

Unlike what welfare costs us now and assuming it`d have no impact which it would.

December 5, 1933: Prohibition Ended In the USA! It had ended in Canada already, iirc...

I think @paperduck is pointing out the TERRIBLE consequences of:
    -a false positive test
    -the enormous cost involved

I know Canada spends nearly as much money RUNNING welfare as it spends ON welfare. It`s almost cheaper to give everyone a monthly cash grant!

But that would put 50,000 bureaucrats out of work! So it will never happen :-(

Jades, no think of everyone who gets positive results. 98% of users, and 1% of non-users. What is the probability someone with a positive result is in the first group and not the second?

"They should be IQ tested first."

Especially with quotes like, "We Have to Pass the Bill So That You Can Find Out What Is In It" and "I`ve now been in 57 states, I think one left to go."
