Hmm, interesting thing.. Is the war on christmas actually making the subject so touchy that christmas is avoided at all cost?

Christmas is a holiday for fools and children. When someone says "Merry Christmas " to me,I always answer"Happy Kwanzaa,", It makes the white folk in West Virginia angry...and I like that.

"I dare you to wish a muslim Happy Holidays at Ramadan."
I`ve heard there`s fasting involved. They`re probably a little cranky...

Also Gerry, you are one of the most level-headed human beings I`ve ever come across on the interwebs.
Much respect man.

You know, people take things too far sometimes. If someone came up to me and said "Happy Kwanza" I would say "Happy Kwanza to you too." Nowhere in that greeting did the other person state that I had to celebrate Kwanza or even believe in it.
To me it`s like telling someone to eff off because they said you look nice today. It`s a GREETING and happy wishes, not meant to be offensive. Quite the opposite actually.
And by the way. Merry Christmas to everybody. If that`s not your thing, take it in stride, it didn`t make you life any shorter or less enjoyable. We all need to stop yielding to the small percentage that piss and moan because their minority isn`t the majority, so they feel the need to make it so. And the worst thing is, sometimes we comply.

"I don`t understand why that should be offensive to anyone."
Think of the WORD: ">>holi<<-day."
The thing is: 51+% of us in the US don`t "holy" anything, EVER.

My own hypothesis is that it`s ALWAYS been higher than 51%, similar to how there are more gay people than just 3% (gay does not mean `openly gay` nor `actively gay.`)
It`s just within the last couple decades, an increasing number of people are "coming out."

You`ll drive yourself crazy trying to use reason with a militant Christian. The two are incompatible.

The most interesting thing about that article is that the author would rather have a "Merry Christmas" greeting that has a generic meaning devoid of intention than a "Happy Holidays" that is specifically chosen to honor people of all belief systems. Basically, the author feels better when they have been pandered to.

It`s really very simple. "Merry Christmas" is exclusive, referring only to Christmas. There`s nothing wrong with that, assuming you want to be specific. "Happy Holidays" is inclusive, referring to any and all holidays of the season INCLUDING Christmas. It seems that would be much more useful as a cordial greeting, no? Why would you want to pointedly exclude wishing happy new year? Or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or Boxing Day or even Happy Winter Solstice?

I don`t understand why that should be offensive to anyone.

"have a happy holiday" or "have a lovely holiday" is my greeting. I wished someone a happy holiday and she yelled at me that i didn`t wish her a "Merry Christmas" and how "this place" and all the immigrants in this place are ruining "this once beautiful Christian nation"... sigh...

From my experience, those who cry "war on christmas" are people who generally are deep down violent and thrive off the idea that they`re able to create a self imposed sense of conflict with others over petty matters.

It`s not about obsession. This last census, they learned less than half the US is religious.

So, now, there`s higher chance than not you`ll run into someone who`ll be offended.
Seems, usually, a person won`t say anything. I think it depends on if someone asked a question rather than just wishing a merry what-ever-the-hell.

"...made up a whole "War on Christmas" over it"
There is no f*cking `war on Christmas.`
People don`t realize exactly how and what they do try and indoctrinate the people around them into their religeons.
It`s ambiguous in their behavior. We`ve just begun pointing it out, en masse.

There`s only one group offended by any of it, and it`s the non-nice individuals who get offended by "Happy Holidays" and have made up a whole "War on Christmas" over it.

Honestly I don`t obsess about it. I say "Happy Christmas" "happy Holiday" or "Merry Christmas" depending on what pops into my little brain group housing at the time. I live in southern California so I`m used to rude people.

"see, i always thought it was happy holidays cause you`re saying merry christmas and a happy new year."

Me, too. Plus, if I didn`t know the person`s religion I played it safe out of respect.

Say what you like. If they are offended they have just identified themselves as someone not worth knowing.
