Elephants don`t roam the United States, Ivory imports are forbidden in the United States, why should the United States pledge money? There is no oil to plunder, no credible despot threatening the safety of Americans. No money to be made by inundating the area with arms- why should we care?

As I have always said, and believe more and more each day, humans need to go. The Earth would be a much better place without us. Cats make much better apex predators on land and are far more eco-friendly.

You know more species of life have lived and become extinct than live today.

I don`t know much about Botswana but I do know it`s covered in a lot of desert and its citizens are not considered wealthy as a whole. I also can`t recall anybody from Botswana telling me what I can and can`t hunt in my backyard. Its easy to sit fat and happy in the US or other rich country and tell others who don`t have it so good what to do.

I believe a tepid glass of water has a higher IQ, and is more useful than this remark and, possibly, the person behind it.

An interesting case study is Kenya and Zimbabwe. In 1979, Kenya`s elephant population was around 65,000 while Zimbabwe`s was around 30,000.

Kenya outlawed elephant hunting while Zimbabwe did not. By 1989, Kenya`s elephant population had fallen to 19,000 while Zimbabwe`s had risen to 43,000.

When we don`t outlaw elephant hunting, people have an incentive to kill elephants but they also have an incentive to raise elephants. When we outlaw hunting, we remove the incentive to raise the elephants, but not the incentive to kill them.

Forsquirl. Made no kids, saved lots of cats. I have more good deeds to do so that I can come back as a cat if they let me do so. Being an octopus might be fun too.

The reason they`re endangered is that no one owns them. People take care of things they own; they don`t give a crap about stuff owned by the government.

The American Bison nearly became extinct, but was brought back to sustainable levels by privately owned herds.

    Capitalism > Socialism.

@AnEgg- I`ve wondered that myself. I know it`s not right to maim an animal but if it means it`s left alone.
@OldOllie- You have a good point but I`m sure there would be an outcry if someone suddenly claimed ownership.
