#31- the rest of England doesn`t like London or Londoners.
Maybe London should declare independence.

Of course, the rest of England at the very least would collapse. London supplies most of the money. But hey, what does that matter?

London and Londoners are a convenient target for irrational prejudice from people who like irrational prejudices but want a target that won`t get them villified.

While drawman61`s comment isn`t true (not all English people outside of London are irrational bigots), it`s sadly too close to being true.

Why is there a statue of George Washington in London at all? I mean sure to the US he`s a hero, but from the UK perspective he`s a traitor and rebel. A successful rebel but still.

It`s not. It`s Barbara Bush.

I lived in Barnes until I moved away- and that segment is okay- with the common and Richmond park accesible even now it could not be called a hole. People are quite nice, not so keen on the SE bit....

AH! I forget that Virginia is commonwealth. They still have the only college in the USA with a royal charter. The College of William and Mary.

I live 32 miles WSW of Landan and I can tell you, It`s a dump. ( But then all crapital cities are dumps). I have commuted there, worked there, clutch-pumped the NCR, A208, A12, A13, A23, A30, M3, 4, 23, 25, 26. I have sat in a jam at Trafalgar square for bloody hours because some half-wit has blocked a junction and grid-locked it, etc, etc, etc. When you get home from Landan and blow your nose, black bogies!
I don`t work there now for less than £25 an hour + overtime.

No, seriously folks! It`s a dream city! come here and spend tons of money! Experience the delights of meeting a genuine roostererney! (Cor Blimey, luv a duck etc)
Me? Jaded?

"About that lady who was found dead after three years with the TV still on ... Don`t they shut-off your electricity in London if you stop paying your bill? "

She could have had the energy bills paid by standing order. There may have been regular money like a pension going into her bank to cover the cost.

As for London cabbies, I`ve had good experiences with them, and always found them to be very friendly. When I was there in `85 with my band, a cabbie took us all the way to our destination and wouldn`t accept any money because he was on his way back to the garage at the end of shift and the place we were heading to was on the way.
