    Video games cause all sorts of violence. Remember back in 3000 bc - to 1400 AD all the wars that were inspired by video games?

    Violence begets violence. If that first violence comes from a real life or simulated life it has to start somewhere. Some guy in the basement only sees violence in the video game yet some guy in Syria sees it every day out the window. They both can become tainted to think violence is normal and go on a knockout game spree or shot a school.

    twopen`orth - over-exposure to violence desensitizes you to violence, hence, if you have that loose wire in your head which means you have the potential to be a murderer, the "normal" repulsive response of "Oh that would be too violent" has been switched off and real murder becomes no different to playing a video game. So yes, video games can make a murderer - if you already have that propensity and need a trigger (no pun intended)

    I always want the people who lobby against violent video games to step out of their comfortable boxes and pay a visit to places like The Bronx or Detroit so they can see how their resources should be directed towards preventing kids from growing up living with REAL crime and violence instead of video games. I know a lot of "violent" people that grew up in the violence, haven`t met anyone that makes those choices because they played a game.

    It`s not that the violent games make killers, it`s that killers like playing violent games. Get your cause and effects right. Probably play the games at first hoping it would satisfy their urges but it`s never replaces the real thing. Like porn. Although I have to admit watching porn does make non-vanilla sex acts like bondage less shocking and more likely to be tried...

    Lady Gaga said it; some people are simply `born that way`. Some not. Much of liberalism seems built on overreacting to the damage done by the exceedingly small percentage. I`ll have to go look up the actual terms to describe how the logic doesn`t pan out for the vast majority, in this case, players of violent video games.

    Playing a video game of football, cooking, surgery, etc. might make you feel like actually trying to do one of those things in real life. Similarly a killing game might make someone want to try that or, at least, desensitize them to the idea of killing. That, I think, is where the concern comes from. I don`t think anyone (who`s really thinking) believes those games make people to kill. Rather, they might make it easier for someone to decide on that route. lauriloo also makes a very good point that people who are into violence are more likely to play those games.

    @papajonOs1,
    "Much of liberalism seems built on overreacting to the damage done by the exceedingly small percentage."
    I`m pretty liberal (I try not to be an idiot about it) and, of course, I hate sweeping anti-liberal generalizations but I have to agree with that comment. It goes along with the stupidity of saying that since there`s a childhood obesity problem in this country, kids should not be allowed to have cake at a birthday party in school or that my kid shouldn`t be allowed to have cake for a school lunch dessert because you`re afraid your kid will have it, too, and get fat because of it.
