The Vulcan is (essentially) a strategic bomber. Somebody really went out of their way to screw it up by explicitly calling it a `tactical` bomber.

The Avro Vulcan is the nicest (along with the HP Victor - which could fly super-sonic) looking plane in existence! This, along with the Victor and Valiant formed the UK`s high altitute strategic nuclear bombing fleet. They were called the V Bombers.

The Vulcan is a relic of a bygone age. Comparing a Vulcan to a JSF is a bit like comparing a 1956 XK140 to a modern Ferrari; not really a valid comparison.
Farnborough is my home town and I have had the pleasure of experiencing that glorious `HOWL` on many occasions. Not a harsh sound, just bloody loud at ground level!

MrMuta: Next time, please down-size a pic that large, then add a link to the full-size, if you must.

Besides, the Lockheed F-35 is extremely over budget. The government made the wrong choice in the JSF competition and now it`s biting us in the ass.

    They should`ve chosen the McDonnell Douglas/Boeing X-32.

I agree with CrackrJak that the F-35 is a white elephant. Britain made the same error investing in it.

....these things could out-handle fighters at high altitude, due to the wing surface area in the rarefied air.

If you`re making a heroic fantasy film involving an enraged dragon-god roaring their potent fury...you know where to go to get the right sounds.

I saw one of these at Farnborough once. The Blackbird was a lot louder and had an afterburner trail filled with balls of fire.
