flames too hot for firefighter in full gear"

Tt was said in the article you posted that the police arrived in minutes. but who knows how long it took for firefighters to arrive. When the man initially was trying to enter the home to save his child it may have not been to late yet. There is never going to be a solid answer on that as the police are no fire marshall`s to decide what house is deemed to hot to be entered.

The policy should be to allow parents/family no restriction in attempts to save loved ones from their own property. If parents choose stand by and do nothing, fine. If they want to climb in from windows or kick down doors of their burning house, then that`s fine too. That father will be haunted for his entire life by this, I certainly would.

This is precisely why I am sick and tired of hearing about how cops are automatically considered heroic. F*ckers!

I`d definitely want to risk my life to save my children too but, that being said...

If the headline had read `Man dies trying to save child as police do nothing`, the ones crying that they did the `wrong thing` would still blame them.

Gotta say, the ultimate liberty is the choice to sacrifice your life to save another. These cops were wrong to do this.

I think of my boy... Even if I knew I would die I would run in there hoping to get to him and drop him out a window even if I ended up dieing in the fire. Any parent knows this. The police should have let him risk his life. I understand they couldn`t risk theirs, but it was his choice to make.

Well that sucks. Too bad the fire department didn`t get there sooner.

i`m not sure which bothered me more, the first one about the little boy dying or the second about the guy undergoing EIGHT invasive medical procedures against his will at the hands of the police....

I`d rather die than lose my child. I don`t mean that in a "suicide" way, but if the chance of getting the kid out alive was next to none ... then there`s a chance I`d gladly take.

Typical sensationalist headline that distorts the full story....

"The job of the government is to protect citizens from making their own decisions about things that affect them. No large soda, no trans fat, no trying to save your kid, you must wear seat belts"

BULLSH|T Sir!

This is NOT a police state, it`s getting there but we aren`t there just yet, thankfully. The government and police are not there to tell you how to live your life, in many cases they aren`t good examples themselves anyway.

Maybe they were protecting him from certain death when there was zero chance of saving the kid... but did they have to tazer him to hold him back? Seems a bit over the top.

No doubt about it Badfish,

since there is no info as to how bad the fire was at the time that dad tried to get in, one can only guess as to wether or not dad stood a chance to get him out alive, or if the mother would have to bury two people she loved.

sometimes you need to protect people from their own instinct, wether or not this was one of those times is to me unclear with the little info available.

The problem with procedure... I`m sure the father would have gladly given his life to even attempt to save his son.
