Ney York City Sends Gun Confiscation Letters [Pic]

New Yorks SAFE Act is a bad, bad thing. It requires people to register, sell or transfer (out of state) assault rifles and high capacity magazines. Many Empire State gun and standard capacity ammunition magazine owners have complied. Many have not. So, at some point, the States gonna go get em. People on both sides of the law enforcement divide will die and the s will hit the fan. Meanwhile, there it is: the reason why expanded background checks, indeed all background checks and any type of registration, set the stage for confiscation. And tyranny. [ED: This notice was sent for New York City residents, based on New York City laws, not necessarily SAFE Act provisions.] [h/t DrVino]

Remember when they said they”d never confiscate your guns? HA! So it begins.

You`ve got to admit, gun control in America sucks. It is much more difficult to get hold of guns in the UK, and guess what? We have way less gun crime per head of population.

No no, MORE guns. There`s no situation that wouldn`t be improved by a room full of people with assault rifles asserting right to bear weapons of mass slaughter. Go for it, you deserve it.

@forplay, that argument is tired and worn out. Its not comparative at all, as the US doesnt describe the same crimes as violent as the UK does.

xaxxonjolly, "It is much more difficult to get hold of guns in the UK, and guess what?"
You also have a different sort of population. Most of our gun violence comes from 2 particular segments of society which you do not have there. If we moved them all over to the UK they`d get guns there too.

Thats because we class spitting, biting and shouting at people as violent!

But yes the comparison of guns in UK and US are ridiculous they are two completely different societies despite the similar language.

Compare the UK and Australia to New Hampshire, Maine, Minnesota, or Iowa, and you have a much more fair comparison. The fact is, all those places have about the same murder rate (1-1.5 per 100k) and their guns laws differ. Guns aren`t the factors, then. How can you explain the difference?

Then you have European countries that differ. Gun control is very tight in Lithuania, they have high murders. One third of Norwegian households have guns, but their murders are the same as in Holland, where there are few guns.

Serbia actually has some of the most guns in Europe. It even rivals America in ownership. However, its murder rate is the SAME as the UK`s (1.2 per 100k). Yes, that`s right. Serbia has the same murder rate as the UK, despite the hugely different gun laws.

These are just some examples. The more you go through the data, the more difficult it is to prove a correlation. It doesn`t exist.

Compared to other big cities in the country NYC was one of the safest based on the FBI`s numbers in 2011.

The city`s murder rate this year is on track to be the lowest since the 1950`s.

@tedgp: And the UK counts "murders" differently too! If there`s no conviction of a suspect? It is NOT counted as a murder. Use the same method in the USA and the "murder rates" are almost the same. USA still a bit higher...

"Gun Laws" make little or no difference in overall crime rates, period! It`s been shown again and again, no reason why the AIB Liberal Brigade would listen THIS TIME eh?

But I do remember many of them saying "OH NO! Confiscation is not what gun laws are about."
Huh? How do y`all explain this?
NYC`s crazy laws make owning legal guns harder, more expensive, and a bigger crime, than owning illegal ones...

One thing the people forget is that gun laws only affect the people that follow them. Thinking that the person breaking the law by murdering someone is going to listen to a law telling them not to have the gun in the first place is silly.

whodat, but you have to be consistent to demonstrate a causation with that correlation. So compare other big cities with heavy gun control. Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Baltimore, and even DC. So you`re arguing that NYC`s gun control is why their crime is so low. If so, why is its outcome so different than the even MORE stringent control in the other cities listed above?

Other things are clearly at play. One obvious thing, the police are definitely behaving differently in NYC, I`ll tell you that much. My hipster brother has been stopped and frisked. Not going to happen in most of the other cities.

It`ll be ok though. De Blasio is going to take over and reverse all the progress (NYC used to be like those other crime-ridden cities). I`m almost excited because of the academic potential. Think of the perfect data point De Blasio will be providing us.

What`s really sad is, the US **IS** going to be attacked. NO one can deny this. The attacks have already begun and its just going to quickly get worse because the enemy is already here and have been for decades. I think the Boston bombers show how deeply embedded they are. Our military is strewn to the winds across this planet and heading out to more locales, which leaves our reserves and 2nd amendment-appointed MILITIA to back up the home-front... and we cant` even have .22`s with 5-round magazines... very smart.

Jesus Christ, why do you feel so attached to dangerous weaponry? Your Constitution gives you the right to bear arms, not any arms. As far as im concerned, as long as you are still legally allowed to carry a 1 shot .22 pistol, your rights are still protected.

And when they say the UK`s violent crime rate is higher, they are right. But we count that as any crime with violence - mugging, robbing a shop, giving someone a black eye. In america, the statistic counts only serious crimes like rape and murder.

Okay, to those of you posting about the various gun laws in cities, please quit. Do you think that posting a sign in the deep end of the pool that says "no peeing in the deep end" is going to do A THING about the fact that pee from everywhere else in the pool will circulate there in seconds?

Australia, Germany, UK, Japan, China, etc., are PROOF that gun control works. All of the dumbassed lame excuses about how it won`t work here are just that. Australians said the same thing. Yes, there`s violence in those places. Nothing like there is here. And the violence that does happen is far less deadly.

I don`t expect to convince anyone of the obvious and fact-backed reality. Nor do I advocate taking guns from the cold dead hands of Americans. But the whole "NYC has tough gun laws and look at their crime" argument is just stupid.

@Byfield: As long as you`re "allowed" to vote for Big Brother once per decade? THAT counts as a democracy! Fair and free!

    Oh wait, no it doesn`t.

Restricted "rights" are not rights at all. When Governments start removing the rights of law-abiding citizens it`s ALWAYS bad news. ALWAYS!

First: take the guns away from the criminals. Period, the end.

@SmagBoy1: That`s proof of NOTHING. What about places with high ownership and low murder rates? Do THOSE places PROVE you wrong? Or do you just turn a blind eye to them and pretend Switzerland doesn`t exist...

    Australia: 15 guns/100 & 1.0 murder rate

@DrShrinker: But @SmagBoy1 & others make OUTRAGEOUSLY FALSE conclusions based entirely on anecdotes, and you let it slide? And their conclusions are pure garbage to boot!

For the record: I`m not making those claims, I`m refuting @SmagBoy1`s and the general "gun grabber" arguments. Completely different. I`m pointing out how obviously their claims are... anecdotal! So you agree with me then? Good.

The point is: there`s NO relation between strict gun laws and number of murders, by gun or other ways. None.

Therefor: To claim that MORE gun laws will LOWER murder rates is... false! Humorously so!

Note: In the USA? There`s actually a HUGE link between high gun-laws and HIGH murder rates... mostly in the big cities. There is no relationship between high ownership and high murder, in fact it`s the opposite.

@CrakrJak - ...and you heard that from the bullsh*t artists in right-wing media. I`m not surprised that`s what you think considering all the other bullsh*t you believe.

Contrary to what people believe, Giuliani wasn`t a very good mayor. People outside of NYC only know him because of 9/11, which he did handle surprisingly well, and he knows that so he takes advantage of it.

Bloomberg was the ultimate piece of sh*t mayor and somehow ($$$$) he kept getting reelected. He poured money into a campaign to extend term limits, and won, just so he could be reelected. The only thing he did was make it harder for middle/low income people to survive in NYC.

That`s why the right has been attacking Bill de Blasio, he supports the middle/low income residents. Bloombergs f*cked up tenure as mayor guaranteed that a Republican wasn`t going to be elected this time.

Obama deficit spent less than Bush...
    About NYC`s Mayors? I said...

So easily and completely proven false! But you insist on "doubling down" on your lies?

Dude? At least I admit I have mental issues.
If you cannot handle the truth THAT badly? Please seek help.

    Rodger Dodger. Over and OUT!
    (Unless you smarten up.)

I do not wish to play any part in your self-destructive self-deceptions any longer. My telling you the truth is not helping you, so I`ll stop now.
Good luck! You`ll probably need it.

5Cats, we have high ownership AND high murder, so, your point is completely, well, pointless.

@5Cats - They were both sh*tty mayors aside from one aspect of their job which was keeping crime down. I live in the f*cking city, I know how things are here. Crime is down, sure, but rent is sky high, prices of everything else is sky high and wages are stagnant. What does Bloomberg do though, he goes after big cups of f*cking soda instead taking care of the other REAL problems. That`s why Bloomberg is a f*cking scumbag.

If you can`t f*cking understand that then you need to get your brain checked seriously. I think all the cold up there has f*cked you up or something. Either that or maybe all the borderline pedophile catgirl bullsh*t.

"TERM LIMITS? What are you FOKKING talking about?"

In 1993 Term Limit rules were voted on, by the residents of NYC, and changed to 2 consecutive 4 year terms, AFTER Wagner & Koch were mayor.

Bloomberg had it changed through the city council, bypassing voters. In 2010, it was voted on again and changed back to 2 consecutive 4 year terms, passing by an overwhelming majority.

Here, read about it and blow it out your stupid f*cking pedophile catgirl loving a$$.

"Why do you attempt to engage me in a battle of wits? You`re Zero for 4 by my score, why continue to hurt yourself?"

Based on the fact that you seem to be the only one on IAB that thinks you`re not crazy, you`re the witless one. You`re just too f*cking stupid to realize it.

...are PROOF that gun control works.
@SmagBoy1: You`ve won the pointlessness championship already! Not even @WhoDat can challenge you in that regard.

@WhoDat: Sure, they`re bad Mayors who instituted idiotic LIBERAL laws! The only thing those two did that was any good was lower crime. As far as I know anyhow. But don`t worry! The new guy is a complete and utter Lefty-Liberal and your murder rate will be back over 2,000 per year in no time :-)

Lots of people agree with me on IAB, you`ve failed to notice that? Anyhow, it`s not a "popularity contest" like you Liberals always TRY to make it. The truth remains the truth, popular or not.

Obama did NOT cut the deficit (compared to Bush), you are wrong, period! You`d probably feel better if you admitted it... just a suggestion.
