@Zed, you are correct. I fear I worded my mini rant poorly. Though, I am correct in saying that the Phoenix was able to take over completely when Jean became overwhelmed (a bit crazy) with power.

@robthelurker Europe is a massive place. Inevitably there will be some of it that`s depressing. I suspect you missed my point though.

Popularity is how much something is mentioned? Then the holocaust is very popular.

@Ani187... "Yes, Jean *becomes* the Phoenix, but only because the immense powers she gained from all that radiation drove her a bit crazy"

Well, no. The Phoenix is a different entity, it rescued a dying Jean Grey and afterwards acted like her but it was not her.

Okay, gonna nitpick for a sec; Jean Grey isn`t a villain. Dark Phoenix is a villain. Yes, Jean *becomes* the Phoenix, but only because the immense powers she gained from all that radiation drove her a bit crazy, and the Hellfire Club tried to mind control her...etc. So, while they occupy the same body, I`ve always seen Jean and Dark Phoenix as separate characters. Hell, she sacrifices herself to save the X-Men in a moment of mental clarity.

"On Social Media" says it all. Totally flawed survey.

Batman is super boring, his villains make him. Superman suffers from god syndrome, and it makes his character super one dimensional and lacking. DC`s real selling point is in the Lanterns.

Marvel is pretty much a bunch of seriously flawed people trying to be the best they can.

Have a feeling this list is based on people who know these characters only from the movies.

@normalfreak

I haven`t followed comics in decades, but back when I was collecting, DC had more characters and a much wider range of stories. Aside from the top titles like Batman, Superman, The Atom, The Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, etc., you had excellent characters like Challengers of the Unknown, Doom Patrol, Metal Men, Cave Carson, Rip Hunter-Time Master, Adam Strange, Sea Devils, Mark Merlin, Metamorpho, Eclipso, Dial H For Hero, Blackhawks, Spacer Ranger, etc. It was a great variety of heroes and situations.

Batman and Joker skew it! DC only has Batman and Superman. Marvel has a much more diverse amount of heros.
