I like to know "the whole story" and assume I don`t always have all the info or facts ... but Jesus Christ ... 2 young, armed cops against that old scarecrow ... I don`t give a drat if he got out of the truck on LSD with a flamethrower. NOTHING warrants that sustained duration and level of intentional physical harm.

I hope he owns the poo out of those cops.

WTF? You have to sign your tickets... Here you can`t dispute your ticket with the cop, if you pay you admit guilt, if not then you go to court and therefore no side of the road issues.

What disturbed me was when the cop said "If people would comply with what they`re asked to do, they have nothing to fear." Note he said "what they`re asked to do", not "What they are legally required to do." Big difference. What happens when a cop asks someone to do something they are not legally required to do? And the cop then "escalates" the situation?

@ EmagehtmaI - Nail meet head.

@ CrakrJak - tell me again we are not in a police state. Oh, you must be one of those that never steps out of line. For those of use that do.... It`s a violent police state.

emagethma, i dont live in the usa and i wont say police officers in other area`s of the world are squeeky clean either, but.. from what i have seen on the web and on this site, it often is the escalations come from american police officers asking of the public that which they are not allouwed, but if that same public doesnt follow this what is asked, they can claim that a person did not cooperate and that in itself is then used as reason (justification?) for exesive response by a given officer.

Jackbooted, Gestapo thugs. There is no reason to nearly beat a man to death over a traffic ticket; a clear sign that police "escalation" is out of control and over the top.

And it looks to me like those particular pigs were trying like hell to trump up any charges they could after the fact.

Is it any wonder people are increasingly losing their respect for the police?

The cop, but more importantly, the chief, should be fired. There is no reasonable excuse for this. Claiming safety is insulting to intelligence. The justified use of force comes with morality, not self-justified power retention.

Why should this officer get off as lightly as being fired? Just because he`s a cop doesn`t mean he didn`t assault someone

As long as you completely surrender your sovereignty as a person and fully submit to the will of "Random Officer," you`ll certainly have nothing to fear..?

Straight up, refusing to sign a traffic ticket is stupid as hell. Like, if the cop was stupid and gave you a ticket that you think you don`t deserve, drating fight it in court. Fighting with cops only leads to bad things - and the cops will always win in a fight.

Stormith, this guy didn`t know what he was signing. He may have been worried he`d lose his job with the trucking company if it was a fine he thought he shouldn`t get. Either way, trying to force someone to sign a ticket, or their refusal meaning they can be forcible arrested, seems like an asinine policy. It should be here`s your ticket, mail a check if you think you`re guilty, go to court if you think you`re innocent.

He wasn`t refusing to sign the ticket ... he was refusing to sign it until he read it first. Nothing wrong with that. FFS, it probably says right on there, "By signing you`re agreeing to the above blah blah blah".

If I ever become an evil dictator, I will call it the "People`s Republic of X" or "The Land of the Free" and start a cult of mainstream media propaganda till I brainwash the country into thinking itself great and fair. Only then will I have truly enslaved the plebs.
