I`m glad I`m not the only one who understood the point of the conspicuously missing Phantom Zone Projector.

I just watched this movie and thought it was an interesting take on the Superman story. Never really read the comics so I didn`t know much of the backstory of how he came to be other than the little bit the other movies showed. I liked that it showed his struggles with finding out who he is and how he was going to handle it. Was obviously a first in a series.

Am I the only person who thinks that the thumbnail for this link looks like Van Montgomery from the show Reba?

"thought it was an interesting take on the Superman story."
The DC multiverse has numerous interactions between the main story characters and alternate universe versions of them.

In those stories, intentionally written this way or not, 9 out of 10 Superman iterations go mad or just plain turn on Earth and take it over thus, the Superman who formed the Justice League had a resounding inner conflict:
"If I have this power and this army, why should I not take over in order to pacify this planet." (There`s a whole story arc dedicated to this.)
The answer is "Because I am neither a tyrant nor a killer."
JLU Superman >>can not harm a fly.<< He always uses just enough force to contain a foe without permanently injuring them.

    cont.

One character he would be willingly fight to the death is Darkseid. Another is Brainiac. Each is a demonstrated danger to the entire universe.
At the end of the first JL TV series, he did try to kill the two them on Brainiac`s space station risking his own life to do so.
Batman pulls him out before he succeeds but, the station`s reactor overloads doing the job for him.

The thing Superman fears most is harming the innocent. He desires most to find the good in everyone.
This was the point of the Projector: To contain any character so dangerous they couldn`t be contained without a fight to the death. It`s a weapon of last resort for a person who is, under most circumstances, unwilling to kill.
