O_o @ferdyfred: Well I`ll be! I thought it was about "Alphabet Town" in Washington DC, a horrible ghetto filled with violence and crime.

Colour me wrong, eh?

He can dance if he wants to. He can leave his friends behind. Cause his friends don`t dance and if they don`t dance then they’re no friends of mine

@RobSwindol: `Cars` was by Gary Numan And isn`t cheesy at all!

`Metal` also by Gary Numan is even better!

Thomas Dolby had a second hit with Hyperactive At least I like it!

Anyhow, these aren`t "one hit wonder" songs...

Actually... I, uh... thought that the song "Whip it!" was about, uh... Jerking off... really hard... To relieve social axiety, uh... You know...? *clear throat*

How do they have Thomas Dolby on there, who worked on other peoples` compositions, and not Ray Parker ?

555 I have every one of those songs on a playlist. That said, I don` think it has to be a 1 - hit - wonder to be cheezy. Starship did that awful "We Built This City On Rock & Roll" song in the `80s. Cheezy but far from their only song. Their only song in the `80s though, they hadn`t had a hit since the `60s.

Here`s my pick for Cheezyest - My Ange Is The Centerfold

He wasn`t a one hit wonder, but David Lee Roth - Just A Gigolo is one of the best 80`s videos of all time.

Some of these aren`t cheezy. They`re either just catchy pop songs or songs with an eccentric touch.

Devo`s best song? "Jocko Homo."

"Funkytown" -- Something about it that transcends the genre.

Where are The Bloodless Pharaohs?

I feel I should clarify why the Safety Dance is the best dance song in history.

Because NOBODY can look cool while dancing to it. Try it. I dare you.

The Safety Dance will always be the single greatest dance song in history. I stood by that the first time I heard it as a child. I stand by that now as a 32 year old and I will stand by that when I am 80.

Tarzan Boy and Funkytown are good songs! Cheesy? Um, yeah :-)

No: Electric Avenue is in Washington DC and Funkytown is a suburb of New York City...
(A question asked in the video...)

Fair enough - I still disagree with the assertion that Devo are "strongly associated" with only one major hit song, as the video says (but not in the opening sentence, not until 0:40 into the video). My 5-year-old kid would agree, as he plays "Girl U Want" in his Rock Band video game and knows it equally as well as Whip It. When the video finally gets to Devo, she states "Their One Smash"

I object to that assertion.

LandoGriffin they explain that in the opening sentence.

At 8:40, this video is too long for me to watch right now. But the cover image is Devo, so I can object immediately without even watching it. If Devo was a "one-hit wonder" (Whip It) then is the video saying "Freedom of Choice" "Girl U Want" and "Gut Feeling" weren`t hits? Then why do I keep hearing them on the radio even 30 years later, and not just on the 80`s station, but the regular Modern Rock station?

Devo also had minor hits with covers of "Satisfaction" and "Working in a Coal Mine" and there was also one I really liked called "Through Being Cool" that was featured in the film "Heavy Metal"
