    The English live in the past. Their infatuation with WW2 and, even moreso, Nazis is absurd.

    The English couldn`t hardly feed themselves let alone over 700,000 pets. Yes, it was tragic, the whole damn war was tragic.

    Would you people rather have had these pets starve to death? Hard choices had to be made, this was but one of them.

    Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

    My old dear lived through the war as a kid
    and lived on scraps and hand me downs, never put the dog down it lived on the rats infesting the houses, as the sewers bombed out the rats came up to the surface and invaded houses.

    during the war rationing was strict, but the British were healthier and fitter than they had been before or since. Very little sugar, evey green space turned into a veggie garden, food taken very seriously.

    It was immediately after the war things got rough. With the infra-structure bombed to hell, the industrial bas smouldering and no reserves at all we were faced with an unprecedentally bad winter. Famine was a real prospect, bread was rationed for the first time and the government seriously considered how to deal with thousands dead of hunger.

    We had paid the US our entire gold reserve and more and still owed them for the weapons and munitions we had bought before they joined in. But when we asked for some lee-way and credit we were told `You hired the money, pay for it.`

    It was only when communism was winning in Europe that the Marshall plan got any traction.

    Back to the point, in urban areas likely to be bombed, maybe a kindness. In rural area

    @LordJim

    Hmmm strange we did the lend lease act at usually a 90% discount for what we provided you. Your currency didn`t collapse also when we supposedly took all your gold like you did to Germany when you took everything from them after WW1 which paved the way for WW2 for sure imagine that! Then they call us brainwashed interesting.....

    `like you did to Germany when you took everything from them after WW1 which paved the way for WW2 for sure imagine that!`

    I agree, except that all the allied powers were responsible for that piece of stupidity. With France pushing hard for a punishing peace. It was a bad decision, You are right about that.

    What was your point?
