    @danagamer

These guys are old with the average age of a WW2 vet being around 90. For most it would have been the first and only time for them to visit.

So you tell me how important it was for them to go and see the monuments?

Let`s get this straight though, they did not `storm the gates`. The people who arranged this and brought the veterans there simply moved barricades for them to enter. The park police stood back and did nothing other than give advisement that the park was closed.

Of course it all could have been avoided if Obama and the boys(both dems and repubs) would get their heads out of their arses.

So let me get this strait, it`s closed because the government has no one able to watch over the parks in a shut down but the government has the people to keep people out.

My mind is so blown that I had to reword that 5 times and I`m still not sure.

Here in North Carolina, there is a privately owned restaurant/hotel on leased federal land on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They were told that due to the shut down, they must empty the hotel and close down. State troopers were deployed to block the entrance to keep cars out- but if ya park your car on the side of the parkway- in the legally designated spots- you could WALK into the restaurant, as to block pedestrians would be illegal.
What a freaking bunch of moronic bureaucrats- drag them into the streets and hang every last one of them.

"who is there (working) to stop them?"

Park police considered "essential" to security.

Thing is the WWII memorial is on the National Mall, along with the Lincoln memorial and the Washington Memorial. It`s not clear if it`s even legal to close it, because it`s right out in the open.

They also just wired the barricades together, but people are vowing to remove them again tomorrow anyways. The park police are refusing to arrest anyone and I don`t blame them. They know this closure is a load of crap and don`t feel comfortable arresting 80 and 90 year old WWII vets at their own memorial.

Nice take on that "On Obama`s Orders" `cause that`s what he does...sit at a desk and yell into the phone "Arrest that one! AND that one! No, the other one you idiot!"

The shutdown is because Dems & Reps can`t make a budget. It is CONGRESS who writes the budget not the President. POTUS just gets to tweak it a little and take credit for a good one while dodging blame for a bad one.

    Biased caption is Biased.

Gerry, Obama actually did order that this monument be closed. It would cost the government not one single penny to leave it open, but Obama spent EXTRA money to set up barricades and post guards just because he`s a nasty little prick.

He has even closed or attempted to close state parks and privately owned businesses. A park ranger has actually said he received orders to make people as miserable as he can.

Mark Levin said that if one of Obama`s goons so much as lays a finger on a WWII vet, he will flood the mall with half a million people. I think he could do it.

This isn`t about a lack of funds for these facilities. Obama is spending MORE money to close them that it would cost to leave them open. It`s about Obama and Reid punishing the American people for having the temerity to have voted for Republicans to represent them in congress.

They are both loathsome, despicable pieces of putrid dog $#!+ who should both burn in hell.

CaptKangaroo, I seriously doubt that those were STATE troopers blocking that business. More likely they were federal park rangers. If I were the business owner, I would call the local sheriff and have him come out and arrest those goons.

@WhoDat: And that makes this story false? NOPE!

@djwajda: True! And more! There`s an organization that gives free rides to vets (especially disabled ones) to visit National Parks and Monuments! Since they schedule well in advance? This FAKE lockout would mean hundreds of disappointed veterans.

The park is open 24/7/365 and is OFTEN unstaffed. Until Obama ordered it closed!

The "Parkies" secured the barricades with heavier wire now... not nice at all.

@Afugy: It`s called "Liberal Logic" eh? If Obama says it`s OK? Then it is! So what if it`s explicitly ILLEGAL under current law? Obama is above all human laws...

@normalfreak2: Does your Mammy know she raised a troll?

@Gerry1: The orders came directly from the White House, it`s an undisputed fact.

The WW1 Memorial has ONE single "barricade" with a note attached, same thing should apply to the WW2 one as well...

What the republicans have done is f`king inexcusable. They`re blocking the budget solely on the basis of their objection to `Obamacare` - nothing more. You`re so desperate to destroy it, you`d plunge your country into ruin to do so. Kinda makes you monstrous, a-moral pricks of the highest order.

what the democrats are doing is totally asinine. Closing parks that are basically just open spaces needing nobody there to supervise, shutting down web cams like at the national zoo that require no human work, things like that. They are just pissed, and acting like babies. Hope this goes on for another week or two.....dying to see what chicken poo stuff the dems pull next

spanz, the Dems didn`t shut down the government. At all. The group who shut down the government is the one who tied an already approved law to the funding of the government. A law. So, what, can Republicans say they don`t like a law that Clinton signed and hold the country hostage over that one? How far back can they go? Know what? If you want to change a law you introduce changes in committee, put the changes to a vote and then enact the new law. That`s how it`s done. When you shut down the government over an already approved law, you`re being a bunch of asshat drattards. And that doesn`t apply to Democrats in this situation. Only Republicans. And your lies won`t change that.

SmagBoy: Obama knows that his healthcare law is a total screw up, he`s exempted most of his corporate buddies, many unions and congress. Now he wants it`s implementation delayed a year, but not for the average citizen. He`s only delaying it for corporations so that much of it`s impact won`t be felt before the 2014 elections.

So since Obama has admitted by his own actions that his healthcare bill is a miserable failure, why won`t he allow it to be fixed?

57% of Americans DO NOT want Obamacare and less than 40% do want it. Harry Reid has been Obama`s de facto veto machine in the senate for over 3 years now. Reid hasn`t allowed an annual budget bill to even come up for a vote in the senate and he has even allowed them to go to the conference committee where there might be some compromise negotiated.

It`s Obama and Reid that are stonewalling this, not the Republicans.

I generally despise Bill Maher but he`s right on one thing; Conservative Republicans live in an Alternate realty. I mean Old Ollie REALLY thinks Obama sits at his desk and orders the FBI/CIA to go shut down a park to "stick it to the Republicans" REALLY? Is this High School? who does stupid petty poo like that willfully? THe POTUS is an IVY league educated individual it would seem pretty silly for him to use power for that specific purpose. You know not like he has other pressing matters on his mind. To me thinking he`d do something like that is akin to a conspiracy theory. Complete Bullhit.

@5CATS there`s a pretty significant different in what happened and facts. You provided nothing but an opinion piece with a MISLEADING title from an incredibly biased source. Natural instinct is to write off that article and take it with a grain of salt. The Foundry is basically a tabloid political group spouting nonsense 95% of the time.

CrakrJak, those polls are bullpoo. Sure, 57% are against "Obamacare". The Republicans and FOXNews have done a great job there. But, when asked, 2 in 3 are in support of the individual measures that make up "Obamacare".

I`m not saying the ACA is a great plan. I`m not saying it shouldn`t be improved! Please, let`s do it! But not at the cost of shutting down the government. You want to change a law? Fine! Do it correctly (and Obama should, too!). Debate it, put it through committee, House and Senate vote, and get it changed. Doing it this way, as I say, is a Republican gambit, holding the government hostage. What`s next? Changing Clinton or Carter laws using this tactic?

Too, why the ACA? Why not change Defense spending? Why not restore taxes to what they were during Clinton (the economy was GREAT then, right?)? Why this? I`ll tell you: it`s a Republican drat job, that`s why. I`m not saying Dems are all great, but this one *is* the Republicans.

@5Cats - The story here is exaggerated. Police never threatened anyone, that`s all rumor and speculation by idiots who write conservative blogs funded by the Koch brothers.

This article that is linked in that blog in the sentence "Police threatened to arrest visiting veterans..." doesn`t even say anything about them being threatened, hahaha! In fact, this is what the article says about their visit, "Many elderly veterans, some in wheelchairs, broke through the barriers set up around the memorial, AS POLICE, PARK SERVICE EMPLOYEES, AND TOURISTS LOOKED ON." No one was threatened with arrest, it`s bullsh*t to get people like you, who will believe anything, all excited.

Teahadists are limited by their own crazy base, if they don`t lockstep they`ll lose to an even crazier opponent in a primary. But by doing this they piss off the rest of the nation and lose all hope of winning at the national level ever again. No legislation was ever realistically in danger, they know it can`t be repealed, but the base doesn`t so this is just a paccy for them.

It`s a two-way street Zira, I don`t doubt the Republicans are playing politics. But so is Obama, he had plenty of time on his hands, before Ted Kennedy`s death, to craft an ACTUAL WORKING POLICY. Not resurrect old dysfunctional Republican ideas (see Romneycare) to make an even more dysfunctional Frankenpolicy. As it stands both sides are entrenched in a mudslinging contest to energize their respective bases. No one`s really interested fixing problems.

Cajun this is a working policy, it has worked in Mass. to stunning success. They have just about the best rate of insured citizens in any state, it worked so well in fact that Romney made it his signature accomplishment in the race for Mass. gov. Before it became automatically bad becuase Obama decided he liked it too.

Now Obama`s liberal base (HI! *waves enthusiastically*) wanted Single Payer and we were ignored (again) for 2 reasons, 1. Blue Dog conservadems in the class of `09 and 2. Dems don`t care for their base, in fact they go out of their way to Punch the Hippie every chance they get. Would I have preferred better? Yes. But this will do.

In the future that`s going to change. And really herein is the key difference between the parties, Reps cower before their base and Dems ignore theirs.

But you continue to believe the opposite, because everybody else is out to get you, you can only trust your own and why would you need anybody else really? You`ve confirmed it amongst yourselves, therefore it must be true. Kinda like Death Panels. Or killing Granny.

They have just about the best rate of insured citizens in any state

I suggest you shouldn`t have too much confidence in those numbers. For one thing, generally people would continue to buy health regardless of whatever policy is in place. On the other hand the both Romneycare, and the way the survey was conducted, encouraged people to lie about their coverage status. Any gains in insured people due to Romneycare would be overstated at best. On the other hand being insured does not guarantee access, on top of which the problem IS a third party payer system. Expanding that, like Romneycare, would encourage MORE people to lean on someone else to pay for their healthcare.

"How many seats in the House or the Senate does the Tea Party hold?"

It doesn`t matter how many seats they actually hold. Believe it or not, the way the House works is actually quite simple for a minority of the members (tea party) to manipulate the system.

I came across this a few days ago, How 30 House Republicans Are Forcing The Obamacare Fight. It explains exactly what is going on in The House of Representatives.

Honestly I am a registered Republican, strictly for practical reasons. If firebreathing Neocons applied the RINO label against me I`d where it proudly, because then I`d actually want to cut the budget and not just alter programs to give themselves or their buddies bigger payouts. On the other hand, look who`s talking, that`s exactly how Obamacare was marketed, that`s how gun control is being marketed, that`s how cap and trade is being marketed. That`s what govt likes to do whenever it seeks to expand executive power or the welfare state. Doesn`t matter the political party, the premise is generally bull5h17.

The Republicans have passed bills funding every single function of the federal government EXCEPT Obamacare. It`s the Democrats who have shut down the government because they can`t shove Obamacare down our throats, even though the vast majority of Americans DON`T WANT IT.

The thing is, they`re aren`t "shutting down the government" in any sense. That nasty little prick Obama is picking and choosing which parts to shut down to inflict as much pain and suffering on the American people as he possibly can. He`s punishing us because we voted for Republicans to represent us in congress. How else can you explain this:

"It`s a cheap way to deal with the situation," an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. "We`ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It`s disgusting."

Obama and Reed are loathsome, despicable, cold, heartless bastards. I hope they burn in hell.

We had a big fight about policy in 2012 called the Election...
@QueenZira: Oh, you mean the election where the Republicans controlled the House? THAT election?

Funny: The majority of Americans: 62% According to @Squrlz4`s link (in another thread) want it CHANGED.
    But OBAMA says NO! NEVER!

So obviously, it`s the 38% MINORITY who are the "hostage takers" correct?? That would be... Obama and the Democrats!

Your own logic: You should use it sometimes...

5cats, you`re talking about the House they couldn`t have held onto were it not for gerrymandering?

And we`ve been over this before too, changed =/= "repealed" so we can throw ourselves on the tender mercies of the insurance companies again.

Yeah but Teahadiis have 1 out of three levers of power in Washington so the people have spoken, obviously...

@QueenZira: Because Democrats NEVER benefit from gerrymandering? is this what you`re claiming? If so? LOZ!

Again I repeat myself: 62% do NOT WANT IT "as is", with me so far?

    Repubs: Want to change it.
Obama: Not even willing to talk about it. NO CHANGE.

You get it yet? WHO is representing the will of the MAJORITY here?
