holy cow 5cats. WHen Apple releases a new I device complete with bugs or whatever people don`t complain it`s part of the norm. When a new game comes out and the servers are jammed with people trying to get in it`s part of how new implementations go out. Could they have done a better job? Absolutely but let`s not act like This has been or will be the only release that goes HORRIBLE. There will be plenty more times this happens with other products.

I see we are on to the next talking point. Too bad the Republicans didn`t let this become the big ACA story instead of the shutdown. Might be looking at better poll numbers than are coming out now.

When Apple releases a device with bugs, it still works; it just has some minor problems. This website has completely failed up to this point. This isn`t a "bug" or a "glitch" so much as it is a complete failure.

Everyone should have expected that there were going to be *some* bugs in the system; that will happen every time. However, nobody expected that the "bug" was going to be the entire site.

This would have been completely unacceptable in the private market. Businesses would be sued and destroyed for unveiling a completely-broken website.

I`ll go with 5Cats on this one. When Apple releases a new iDevice people DO complain about it. Releasing products with bugs in it is part of the norm, but that doesn`t make it OK. We should hold the government to a higher standard than we hold our businesses.

I`d put most of the blame on CGI Federal tho`, the private contractor that Washington hired to do the work. I don`t know why we never learn. Private companies with private money are efficient. Government companies with government money are inefficient. Private companies with government money are inefficient and are BAD AT THEIR JOB.

These dumb bastards had 3.5 years and a $700-million budget put up a goddam website, and it`s totally FUBAR. These arrogant pricks couldn`t get an umbrella through a gate, yet they insist that they`re competent to run the nation`s entire health care system.

This is not true. Way back in college I took a class that covered software engineering and they discussed the process of quality testing and load testing a website and associated servers. This should never have happened as the tools exist (just search for load testing websites)to analyze what will happen at various user loads and even if everyone tried to sign up at once. This should be no surprise to anyone and is just inexcusable.

@normalfreak2: $500,000,000 THAT is how much the ACA website cost! It`s one of the BIGGEST WASTES OF MONEY in US Gov`t history!
    Great "first impression" eh?

@TechMistress: As I pointed out on that post? He APPLIED but did not BUY the actual insurance! There`s a difference, you know.
See? It`s Two Different Things Under ObamaCare

@panzerlenis: "New talking point"?? We`ve been saying this since Day 1, you just haven`t been listening.

@HolyGod: Did you notice the price tag? How "well it`s working"? That`s YOUR MONEY being flushed down the toilet, buddy. Don`t worry though! The Gov`t will NEVER RUNOUT of YOUR MONEY to flush!

And I`m damn proud a Canadian-based company is milking US green stuff :-) Just like those busses Obama used

    ...on his "listening tour" :-)

@mr.Peabody: Correct! This was "rushed out" by orders directly from the White House! They tried to warn them it wasn`t ready? But Obama said: NO Negotiations! (lolz! I made a joke!)

What did they expect? 7+ million people are required BY LAW to sign up before a certain date. At the pace they`re on? Less than half will be able to.

NOTE: As "alternatives" to the website? The Gov`t has actually said to use the phone-in service OR SNAILMAIL!!! Can you believe it?

HALF A BILLION DOLLARS SPENT and the solution is to send a paper application?

Some things require "all caps" and THAT is one of them!

You voted for him! Now you must "pay the piper"...

@5Cats, so you`re saying that your issue is that there was no competition for the contract? Then why did you post this? The website failing has nothing to do with the lack of competition.

This is the main reason I get mad at Republicans. It`s one thing to have an issue with the way something is being done, it`s another thing to find and poke a million holes in it, just to show everyone else you are upset. It`s a bit like a child smashing his own toy and then crying because it`s gone because he knows it will garner attention.

You are kidding right? This was easy to debunk. Sony Released Final Fantasy 14 about 3 months ago. Access to the game server was so limited due to an error that would prevent you from logging on. This happened for over a month.

Not a single lawsuit. Mind you this was a product you had to pay for in advance to access so yea. It`s called part of the business cycle. New software releases commonly have these problems. GTA 5 had issues, they aren`t getting sued for it. it`s ridiculous to assume that happens in the private sector. This is JUST GAMES right now. Heck if you want me to go into software releases that went bad I can find plenty of those too.

Sorry if it seemed like I was making an excuse for the ACA website I wasn`t intending for that. I was simply pointing out the absurdity that this was the first and only time something like this has happened. I agree this shouldn`t have made it past beta testing or even done load testing. But who knows? All i know is that it doesn`t work correctly and yes given the amount of data and people it`s supposed to service it should have been capable of handling that demand. Obviously it wasn`t.

So you`re telling me that Sony refused to sue themselves? Well what a surprise.

Now, if some company had come in and established all the servers for Sony under the assurance that it would work and it subsequently crashed, what would happen?

Oh right, Sony would sue the sh*t out of that imaginary company. I own a business that provides regional and (after this weekend), national IT services. If I built this system for another company and it failed so spectacularly, I would lose my business.

    Agreed.

Also for those saying that Obama did not code the website personally, any reputable company will work closely with the customer to ensure that what is provided is what was asked for (not saying Obama, but someone in the govt. signed off on it). This is just part of software engineering. It protects the customer as well as the contractor from scope creep. So to say that the government is not responsible for the delivered product is wrong, they had to sign off on what was delivered.

You`re right, I haven`t been listening. I`ve been reading (we are in a forum after all and not actually talking to each other). See? I can be snarky too!

Let me clarify my statement for the simple minded. The next talking point FOCUS goes from "how Dems are not willing to compromise", to "How badly the Dems screwed up the implementation of the ACA."

Unfortunately, the Tea Party hurt themselves by picking this fight at this particular time. Its made the ACA more popular, and really hurt the conservative movement. You can jump to the next talking point and hope it hurts public perception of the ACA, but I`m not sure the American public is going to care enough to help you stop it now.

@Patchouly: I`m pointing out the "double standard" the MSM has employed since the Reagan Era:
    Democrats are always good!
    Republicans are always bad!

    Lets see this in action:
    >OWS: `mostly peaceful` protests in which thousands were arrested for arson, looting, rape and violence.
    >Tea Party: vicious, ugly, racist mobs where there was no violence, no arrests, and they cleaned up afterwards.

The people building the website made MANY visits to the White House. We don`t know exactly how many because OBAMA ORDERED THE WHITE HOUSE VISITORS BOOK BE KEPT SECRET! For the first time in US history...

@WhoDat: Because it`s STILL a disaster means IT IS NOT NEWS anymore? Huh? What?

@panzerlenis: We`ve pointed out it was screwed up for the past 16 days, HOW is this a "new point"? The only thing "new" is that even the Democrats are admitting it`s a SCFOAMF...

I`m poking around on the website right now and everything seems to be working just fine for me. The majority of people I know who also live in NY who needed health insurance have already signed up in the last two weeks with no problems. I haven`t signed up because I get free healthcare from the VA as a "Thank You" for dodging bullets for 8 years in the Marine Corps. No point in paying for something I get for free.

Oh, my mistake. I thought you were mainly focusing on the shutdown, the parks being shutdown, how Dems are unwilling to compromise, etc. I didn`t realize the primary focus of your debate over the last 16 days has been all about the ACA website issues.

Too bad the Tea Party didn`t ask your advice before pushing for the Gov`t shutdown. If they just hadn`t used the shutdown as a bargaining chip, maybe they would have some leverage with the launch day issues.

Between you and me, I think the tea party might have been infiltrated by dirty liberals. We know conservatives are all reasonable people so the only way this could`ve happened is if the vast left-wing conspiracy we all know is destroying `Merica is involved.

I didn`t want to post a huge pic. Actually "Toronto" is very fast! The rest of Canada has LONGER wait times for most things!

Here in Manitoba? Knee replacement and hip replacement (unless DIRE emergencies) are close to 2 years, not just 1 year...

@panzerlenis: The `shutdown` and ACA are closely related, eh?
The Senate `shut down` the gov`t by attaching ACA funding to a bill. It`s their right to, it`s a fact! But it`s also the House`s right to say "no!" and remove it, which is what they did. The Senate refused to pass it, and Obama REFUSED TO EVEN TALK! :-)

@Cajun247 - Enrollment began on Oct 1, 2013, plans go into effect Jan 1, 2014, you have to be enrolled by Feb 15, 2014 to avoid a penalty.

How many people do you know who wait until the last minute to do sh*t. A perfect example is filing taxes on Apr 15th every year, that`s why Post Offices are open until midnight. Technically, those who are signing up are pre-ordering their insurance for Jan 1, 2014. Not everyone rushes out on the first day a pre-order is available.

I also find your fascination with little animated girls disgusting, but since it is just animation it gets a pass for some reason.

Question...In your tens of thousands of comments here at IAB, have you ever convinced anyone to change their political stance? Even once? Why even try..CANADIAN!
Maybe you should double up on the meds and keep your filthy canadian nose in your own business. Most of all, try posting something that people might like. Something that will get more than a 1.5 rating. Until you do...IAB IS BETTER OFF WITHOUT YOU.

@nubblins: I`m sorry your `catastrophic care` is crappy, THAT is the only part of Canada`s system that "works"... if you call waiting in Emergency for 3-5 hours "working"...
But my medication costs more than that each year. NOT COVERED, WE PAY!

    @nubblins: You`d be AMAZED at what`s `not covered` up here!
    Glasses? Nope.
    Dentists? Nope.
Prescription drugs? After your `deductible` which is usually $1500 or more.
Then there`s "extra billing" for many things.

Of course you can BUY INSURANCE to cover all these things... oh wait!

He is an admitted nut case.

Says a guy who named himself "turd_burglar"

5cats - I happen to love your nice and happy personality....
    Awww!
But nobody`s perfect, eh? And remember: what happens in the USA is EXREMELY IMPORTANT TO ALL CANADIANS!! Y`all are HUGE and stuff...

Better off without me? But @turdy? Who will the IAB Liberal Brigade have to B*TCH ABOUT if I go?

    ...You? :wicked laughter:

@SmagBoy1: Did Google or whomever spend:

    $500,000,000+ ON THEIR LAUNCH?

When the budget was $93 million?

Did they fail to work for 3+ WEEKS (and counting)?

Did we tell you it would be a disaster? YES WE DID!

@turdy: Why should I listen to those who hate me? Those who troll without rhyme or reason?

    "The nattering Nabobs of negativity!"

It`s a fact: Liberals Hate! No matter what I do? They`ll still HATE me, so why should I submit to them?

    Freedom > Popularity.

Until you "run the zoo"? You opinion is EQUAL to mine! WHY DON`T YOU LISTEN TO MEEEEEE @turdy? ;-)
