I don`t care; that`s still impressive... and that`s coming from someone that doesn`t like rap.

I hate rap with a passion. It`s NOT music. But this impressed me. Certainly a good degree of talent involved to keep track and rap that quickly.

LOL! I love it when little kids school me in music. I`ve been in the industry for 30 years. real music contains instruments that took years to learn how to play. It contains tempo and timing and performances that are in key. The work that is done to make these guys sound good is done mainly on a computer (same place most of the "music" is created). Trust me, there is a reason they all lip sync.

for someone in the industry, i`d expect you to realize that instruments were used because that was the only way to make sounds in the past. as technology advances, so do our instruments. Yes, there is a skill involved in knowing how to make these sounds manually, but that is simply known as talent - not music. Maybe they should hire me in your place.

How exactly is playing an instrument "not music"? Your idea of "music" is a repeated beat while someone talks out of rhythm and out of key? Just because you can dance to it, doesn`t make it music. Better to call it "Street poetry". Heck, you can dance to an annoying leaking facet, but I would never call that music. Also, while we`re on the subject, pressing play on a sequencer hardly qualifies a person as a "musician".

Considers a person who plays an instrument not a musician but someone who hits a play button and talks fast is WOW! Talking is not singing.

*sigh* I never said that. What I was saying was that manually producing sounds through an instrument is not what defines music. The ability to make these sounds manually is known as a talent. It is the placing of sounds together in a way that is pleasing that defines music. It does not matter how those sounds are produced. One does not need an instrument to make music. I`m not trying to take away from the talent required to do so however. My point is that just because it is easier to make music today it does not mean that it is not music. To say that pushing a number of buttons in a sequence is not music is no different than saying playing an electric keyboard is not *real* music...but you wouldnt say that now would you? Please, reconsider your career choice before its too late.

You`re missing the point, skullgrin. I don`t care how you make music. A bongo is a simple instrument, but can make music. It`s the fact that stitching together samples and talking over them is not music. Like I said, it`s "Street Poetry" at best. To again use the same analogy: If I turn on the faucet, just enough that it drips, does that make me a musician? If some kid hears the dripping and starts to dance to it, does that suddenly make it music? And... if the media pushes and advertises the living crap out of the dripping faucet dance, does that suddenly make it a phenomenon that is worthy of attention? In the end, it`s still just a dripping faucet.

I gotta admit, I couldn`t do that. On the other hand, I gotta ask, who would want to listen to that a second time?

    Patchouly and skullgrin:
You are arguing over semantics. You are choosing to define music differently. Why drag it out?
