Here`s a question, why do firefighters take bottled air with them when doing their job? Because in their working environment the air is too dangerous to breathe. Same goes with water the local water supply is not potable. The markup may be ridiculous but there are legit reasons for bottled water.

Now granted if you live in suburban/urban America it`s not much of an issue. There are certainly areas where sage drinking water is inaccessible.

555 That totally shows how stupid bottle water is. Not to mention all those plastic bottles floating around in the ocean.

"the local water supply is not potable.
Then you need to march collectively on city hall and demand clean water. What are you paying taxes for? Dirty water?

Bottled water is a mad idea in any region where potable tap water is available. According to wiki the US gets through 50 billion bottles a year.

A couple of stainless-steel canteens will take care of most people`s needs.

I think there are some reasons to use bottled water. For example on a job site where plumbing hasn`t been run yet. Also I do buy bottled water but I reuse the bottles when I am done. I either reuse them for water or spit in them (I chew tobacco). I do not want to use a glass that I use to drink out of to spit in.

city hall and demand clean water

Do you think there`s a city hall in every slum in the world? Do you think they`re all even approachable?

Cajun, I was speaking of US or European cities. I want` addressing the problem of potable water in the 3rd world. But then, I don`t think they are the main buyers of Evian, do you?
