Robin Hood (1955 -1960) was written almost entirely by blacklisted Hollywood writers using pseudonyms. I saw re-runs as a kid, it was a classic show.

I`ve been checking out US shows I used to love as a kid. Bonanza is still outstanding and Car 54 Where Are You? made me laugh out loud, as did F Troop. Classics.

I agree about Life on Earth.. a few others I can`t see ( TW3?) on the list- but I have not actually watched TV for the last 10 years so I am not sure about some of them.

    Gerry,

I`d forgotten about Wating for God. That was a good show. You got that in the states?

Life on earth definitely deserves to top the list.

Bill and Ben should be there (First ever children`s show). Others I can think of include tomorrow`s world (which really should be brought back), Grandstand (pre Sky Sports it was amazing) and Teletubbies (a global success story). Also, Big Brother isn`t British, it`s Dutch.

Well, if we have Attenborough in play, it`s just a question of who takes second place. In my opimion.

Madduck, a few BritComs made it over on the PBS, public broadcasting. Thinks Vicor of Dilby & Good Neighbors. They`re still playing Keeping Up Appearances and Are You Being Served.

Mostly I watch these on the web. I`m currently following Butterflies & Waiting for God. I`ve seen one George & Mildred and thought it was good.

Oh.. Thin Blue Line!!! Love Rowan Atkinson as anything. Blackadder, MrBean

You folks don`t laugh at "The Simpsons?" Oh come on, I don`t believe you, that`s hilarious! Although you know what I don`t get? "The Office",(US version) slow pace, awkward silences, bizarre asides...just doesn`t tickle the funny bone I guess.

Oh hey, they mentioned "The Rugrats" in the intro, I grew up with that show! Good times.

    bull pucky...
where are the young ones, misfits, are you being served, keeping up appearances, east enders, spaced, goonight sweetheart, the benny hill show and the last leg?

seriously, any list of the best british shows that leaves out "are you being served?" certainly hasn`t done much research into TV ratings and continuing play in syndication.

No Dirk Gently? C`mon. Besides the fact that theres American shows in there, they completely forgot some of th ebest programming ever.

Blackadder, Traffic Cops (im serious, its a good show), Road Wars. Red Dwarf! Inbetweeners. Did they sit down and think about this and not come up with this stuff?

@byfield Pity Dirk Gently got cancelled, while it wasn`t the original storyline, the people involved obviously `got it` and did a nice job. All of them were fans of the original, even the lead actors.

No Father Ted, Blackadder or Red Dwarf? But Big Brother got on it? Seriously? :/

Gerry1of1: It`s the UK`s opinion on the best shows, not solely UK shows.

Wasn`t the US list voted for or something? This one was combined by a panel of "experts", who might actually have been embroidery experts or something, because apparently they don`t know much about what`s popular on British TV. No voted list of 50 popular British TV shows would miss out Blackadder or Red Dwarf.

This article would have been better titled as "Some guy you never heard of lists his 50 favorite TV shows."
