the reason to terminate a pregnancy is a private decision and i personally think that that reason should remain private. just my opinion.

If anything, it`s sexist. Basically Eugenics. You know, playing the pregnancy lottery, or pregnancy Roulette, until you get one that you deem desirable.

I mean, really..."This one has a Y chromosome! Let`s try again until we get the big double X!"

It`s certainly creepy, but sure, go ahead and do it. Doesn`t change the fact that it`s a form of Eugenics. After all, it is better if we have less `unwantedness` in the world. It`s also much better if people creepy enough to abort based on gender reproduce less (also Eugenics, I hope you understand why Margaret Sanger was totally into that stuff now).

"As far as I`m concerned, it doesn`t matter why any woman wants to end her pregnancy. If it`s to select for sex, that`s her choice"

So now sexism can be excused as a "woman`s choice". Sorry but that`s so idiotic we need to ban this sexist practice before it becomes routine.

I`m much more interested in the possibility of attitudes in a country that villianizes female offspring being reformed through natural societal progression...but until that happens, it`s kind of hard to argue against the idea that if a woman who knows her child will be killed after giving birth or that the child will be aborted through unorthodox methods should have access to more viable medical options for termination.

While I have no authority to say that people should or shouldn`t partake in sex-selective abortion, that doesn`t stop me from being incredibly adverse to the concept were I faced with the possibility of making such a decision. It also doesn`t stop me from quietly thinking that those in first world countries who abort because their fetus hasn`t formed a desirable genital configuration are pretty damn ugly in spirit for their decision.

Canada has this already! No laws regarding abortion whatsoever!

No reason asked, none need be give. Any time, any stage, no questions asked.

8 months along? No problem! It`s perfectly legal in Canada! In fact it might be ILLEGAL for a doctor to refuse!

Why hide it? Why use "euphemisms" to disguise it? Just call it what it is:

    Abortion ON DEMAND!

@5Cats, no doctor in Quebec will perform a third trimester abortion unless there is great medical need.
Most clinics here do not perform past the 20th week.

There are no laws on the books, however, there isn`t a doctor in his right mind that would preform and abortion beyond 20 weeks. There is an ethical element that keeps doctors in check.

5Cats is basically correct, the US and Canada have the loosest abortion laws in the world. Some doctors may refuse, but it`s really not hard at all to find one who will perform one. Remember Wendy Davis? She had a hernia over a bill that would set the limit at 20 weeks (i.e., the limit is already higher than that).

Europe, the source of all Progressive erections, actually has much stricter abortion law. Many countries have about a 12 week or 90 day limit. Some bump it up to 16. Even Holland has it around 20ish, which is more strict than Texas. And in some countries like Ireland and Poland it`s practically forbidden.

But what would really make Progressives have even bigger hernias is the fact that you have to undergo so many procedures to get them in places like Germany - like a waiting period. Or mandatory counseling. These things would never fly in the US.

Dr Morgentaller`s famous statement: ANY abortion ANY woman ANY time.

A Morgentaler clinic will abort whomever walks through the door.

You`re deluding yourselves @Geogypsy & @Patchouly if you think "no doctor" will do it.

    Money talks!

Hellfire! Look at the doctors doing "born alive" abortions! Cutting the spines of live-born babies!

There is NO LAW at all: it`s perfectly legal, so I have NO doubt there`s doctors out there who`ll do it.

Henry Morgentaler: Canada`s Abortion Crusader! Opened his first clinic in Montreal...

Aborting the baby based on gender just takes it to a more shallow level. What`s next? DNA test says it`s a ginger baby and you wanted a blond?

Wrong is wrong, no matter how you justify or rationalize it. It`s wrong. You know it`s wrong that`s why the reaction is so strong when you`re called on the carpet for it. Guilty feeling in the back of your mind? Yep, thought so.

@5Cats Second trimester pregnancy terminations (between 13 and 20 weeks)

The Mortengaler Clinic is the first search result on Google when seeking `abortion clinics montreal`.

Sadly enough, I have experience with an individual suffering from prenatal depression who phoned this facility only several months ago. She was 16 weeks pregnant at the time and was referred to a different facility because the clinic refused to perform past 18 weeks even though they advertise the cut-off at 20. Fortunately that individual chose to go through with the pregnancy and is presently at term and in much higher spirits.

Perhaps I am deluding myself that precisely no doctor will perform a late term abortion in Quebec...perhaps I was expressing an inherent and gullible faith I have in mankind...perhaps I was exaggerating...regardless, I admit that there is no way for me to prove my statement and that late term abortions may well occur here.

go ahead and give me hate on this. I am for the most part pro-life, but believe that there are a few (very few) exceptions to it. With that being said, to the people who fall into this category. Sex is what causes you to get pregnant (usually), so if you dont want the risk of having a baby, STOP HAVING SEX!!! ok my little rant is done atm.

hmm, let me just put the argument on the table that everybody is afraid of.

7 billion people on this plant.. do we really need all of them? we can only feed a third. and considering humanity has removed it`s self from natural selection. isnt it about time we decided what the we really need?

disturbing thought isnt it? still looking at the resources left, and how we use it...

Gerry: "What`s next? DNA test says it`s a ginger baby and you wanted a blond?"

Or what if they do find a gene for being gay? or lesbian? or conservative? or liberal? or anything else? I`m not saying there is a gene for the above, but you just never know what doctors may say they`ve discovered in DNA next.

"Wrong is wrong, no matter how you justify or rationalize it. It`s wrong."

    Totally agree.

@Patchouly: Oh sure  never past 20 weeks  That would be IMMORAL :nudge nudge:

Like cutting babies into pieces is A-OK one day earlier? Like Money doesn`t talk?

@Geogypsy: No worries mate! We all `delude ourselves` a little bit!

The fact remains: it`s not "against the law" then someone WILL DO IT. And since most provinces require NO REPORTING of abortions details? It will remain unknown.

@mandingo3519: That`s just `crazy talk` ;-) Can`t teach children THAT! Teach them that blowjobs prevent pregnancy, like they do in England...

@CrakrJak: Excellent point! I forgot about the "gay DNA" eh? If you`re "born with it" then it`s IN YOUR DNA and it can be detected and ABORTED... legally! Perfectly legal...

I use to be a pro-choice libertine. Then I became pro-life. Now I`m back to being pro-choice, but for purely cynical reasons. The vast majority of women who have abortions vote Democrat, and their children are overwhelmingly likely to grow up to do the same. If Democrats want to kill off a good portion of the next generation of Democrats, I say let `em.

The "Roe Effect" is real. Google it.

    @OldOllie,
An awful lot of women who have abortions are covered by Medicaid. So you can be cynically pro-life for economic reasons, too!

Actually, it`s MUCH cheaper to abort them than to pay to raise them to age 18. The cost of an abortion is a trifle compared to TANF, WIC, food stamps, subsidized housing, free public education, free school breakfast and lunch, free transportation to and from school, and even more Medicaid.
