"What makes Minnesota so different from Louisiana?"

I`ve lived in both states, grew up in and currently live in MN. These states can`t be more different.

Unless things have changed, it`s because every able-bodied person has to serve in the military for a certain time and remains part of an armed militia to be called up if necessary. So said my Swiss co-worker once.

`government controlled society `

We wouldn`t want that. With no goverment control we could all be as happy, peaceful and prosperous as Somalia.

The hot, thin chick is smart to bring her fat friend along. That way, in the event that the fat chick gets smoked by some assailant, the hot chick can use her friend`s body as a giant sandbag to steady her weapon while returning fire.

Very clever.

Of course fwoggie. In your case, an unarmed society is a douchy, arrogant, society without the basic rights to defend yourself.

*cough cough* eurotwat douche thinks we want your government controlled society *cough cough*

Andrew155, I don`t know how to break it to you, but Australia is not in Europe. It`s not even close.
@mehhehgah, unlucky, sir. You`ve waited all this time too make your first post and got it wrong. Andreww said Austria.

Andrew155 having a gun increase the possibility to kill someone in an unconmensurable way. Go kill someone with a ping pong ball and you will see the difference. Switzerland is a feking rat hole in the middle of mountains where people live closed inside their houses with doors and windows shuts. The life in the streets ends long time before the dawn. They stay in home feking eachoters, cousins with cousins from ages. And the population density per area is low. Is a fecking mountain place where no one talk to others. In a situation like that having a gun matters a lot on the statistic of murders.

teelelen, you guys always use that weasel statistic. What does it matter if murders are committed with guns or some other device? Total murder rate is the only true and fair way to actually know what is going on in a society.

The fact is that Switzerland has one of the lowest murder rates in Europe (.7/100k). That`s less than Australia and England for certain. In fact, it`s only higher than Iceland, Norway, and Austria. And actually, those countries have quite high rates of gun ownership too.

Also, look at my link down in a previous post that shows a picture showing zero correlation between gun ownership rates and your "gun" murders in American states. It just doesn`t exist.

Switzerland does not have the lowest crime rate in the world, it actually has a higher gun crime rate than most other European countries...

@NNoamfer, you have met them. Most have guns, they just don`t have wank fantasies about getting the chance to shoot people

IRockYeah, not shiite Europe is a continent. But people talk about America vs Europe in generalities all the time. Europeans do this all the time, especially when they are not in Europe. It`s not that big of a deal. The countries in Europe are about as diverse as the states in America are, anyways. Certainly our people are more diverse, though less total languages. We just have one federal government over all of them.

As a Swiss living in Switzerland, I haven`t met anyone with a gun yet. But at the same time, I only moved here recently, so I guess I have more to see.

Europe might as well be a country, imo.

Your countries have about as much in common as our states do.

Because they are chilled out, relaxed Europeans who don`t want to invade countries half of their citizens haven`t heard of.

People are also less likely to kill each other if they`re not poor. Poverty is a big factor.

No crime? that`s because they`re all exactly the same race. They all think exactly the same, have the same needs, same values.

hot babes with evil assault rifles? Never in the USA. Here dickless liberals would not allow it, it would scare them too much. Unless their therapy dogs were standing by, that is.

@ Robswindol: So if you want to use Switzerland`s gun ownership as an example of how to reduce crime, you must also give credit to their stringent gun ownership laws.

Coupled with the fact they have less psycopaths walking the streets.

And before guns were invented there was zero gun crime anywhere in the world. What more proof do you want that guns should be banned?

Everyone acts like America is one monolithic place, but some states are as safe as Europe (or safer), and some are like Mexico. Why is that?? Do people just like to ignore that? It seems totally relevant to the discussion. Actually, it`s vital because it`s perfect for a controlled analysis.

What makes Minnesota so different from Louisiana?

Yet Switzerland doesn`t give their citizens blanket gun ownership rights. In order to own a gun there, one must first submit a legitimate reason for wanting to own the gun, which is then reviewed by who? The Government... that`s who. This is called gun control.

It`s also important to note that a huge part of the reason that Switzerland has the amount of guns that they have is that they have mandatory military service, and the vast majority of this "gun ownership" you speak of is actually a matter of military members having possession of their issued firearms. But before they are given these firearms, they are trained how to use them by THE GOVERNMENT. Once again, this is a form of gun control that goes far beyond that of American gun control.

So if you want to use Switzerland`s gun ownership as an example of how to reduce crime, you must also give credit to their stringent gun ownership laws.

Serbia has more guns than Switzerland and the same murder rate. 1/3 of Norwegian households have a gun, but they have a lower murder rate than Holland, where the ownership rate is almost nil.

Russia and Poland both have very strong gun control, among the strongest in Europe. In Russia, this has led to the highest murder rates on the continent (10/100k). In Poland, this has lead to some of the lowest on the continent (1/100k).

Lithuania also has strong gun control, but the highest murders (and suicides) in non-Russia Europe (6.6/100k).

The UK and Australia are usually exhibit A in gun control arguments, they both have few guns and murders at 1/100k. However, their murder rates were this before and after the law change. And it`s the same rate as many US states that do have guns (New Hampshire, Minnesota, etc).

You can do this all day. No correlation exists. The world is DYNAMIC, not one-dimnesional.

There is much more to the story in Switzerland. They have very strong regulations. For a dose or reality, see this:

In Switzerland, whenever a male is "of age" they are drafted into their militia, given a gun (I believe a Sig 550 or 552), and go through militia training.

That is a great idea, because Switzerland normally keeps to themselves and has excellent, non-interfering foreign policies. I wonder if that`s why nobody bothers them...

Here`s more info on it:

Yes, once again, no correlation between firearm rate and gun ownership exists. Places with many guns have both high and low crime, places with few guns have both high and low crime.

Dynamic analysis is good for you, it`s good for me.
